I had read a lot of the Underbelly books before I saw the first one so knew a lot of the story line. It helped because I found the series difficult to follow. Much better watching it the second time because you pick up bits that you missed.

There are quick reading books about the Sydney story that you can buy and would finish in a couple of nights, or tape it and watch a second time

I thought last night's epsiode was well done. I was aware of most of the basic storyline though.
I must say though for a show that does so well in so many areas they dropped the ball a few times in last nights episode with a lot of decidedly non-70's items getting into shots and I'd be researching 1970s haircuts better especially on women.

Well said. Also the last series started in a similar vein, i.e set the big picture up of the main players, what the dealings going on etc and then let rip.

I enjoyed it, and thought it was well done. Must say the chick on the boat  WOW !!

Interesting you say that

I am just catching up on the first series - in Ep 4 they charge into the servo and clearly in picture are cans of Coke Zero

Given it was meant to be late 90s or so I thought that was careless even tho I appreciate it must be difficult. Very entertaining show all the same

Think you'll find they had Pure Blond on tap in some of the early eps of season 1 too.

Last night I noticed at the track they had the "Home of the Emira...." sign above the barriers in one shot.

Last night's premiere of Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities delivered the bloodbath it promised, slaughtering its television rivals to become the most-watched Australian drama in ratings history.

The highly-anticipated sequel to Underbelly attracted over 2.8 million viewers at its peak and averaged 2.584 million during the first half of its two-hour debut, according to television ratings source OzTAM.

The figures smash the record set by Kath and Kim in 2007, which pulled in 2.731 million viewers during its season four premiere on the Seven Network.

Just a little confused but my history lesson tells me that the Kane brithers did the Bookie Robbery and its was in 1976 and Donald Mackay was killed in 1977 but in the show the events are the other way round

Some one should get the timeline correct.

I didn't think much of it. I liked the first series but this already looks like it's going to be more of a drama. The fact it's going to be on at 8:30 every week pretty much confirms that. The watchdog have said they're watching closely and you can only really show the good stuff from 9:30 onwards. At times I started to find it hard to stay with from losing interest. I think they made a big mistake going with Matthew Newton too.

Woh! Nice pick up. For some reason watching last night I was thinking the Great Bookie Robbery was 1978. Also the Kane brothers quite clearly weren't involved in last night's robbery???? :?

Just for the record (and being a music nerd ;) ) the song they were working out to to get fit for the robbery was "Girl in a sweater" by The Hard Ons and that wasn't released until 1986!!!!
