I saw a movie on SBS years ago - AND IT WAS CLEAN! But it was called "The Vanishing". Sensational movie. I think either Charlie Sheen or Emilio Estavez starred in the really bad Hollywood remake but the original is very good.

Watched "Friends With Benefits" with the missus last night, and thought it was decent enough (last half hour or so pretty slow/average), but anything with Mila Kunis  is generally worth watching.

On the weekend I caught "Takers" which again was enjoyable enough to watch .. You could pick a fair few holes in the story, but it was entertaining for the best part.

Agreed, mega bat worthy.

Watched a film called "Twelve" tonight .. Pretty dark and edgy almost modern day "Less Than Zero" type film in some ways .. A few flaws, but must admit I was pretty engrossed.

Eagle Eye was alright for what it was.

Silly techno terrorism.

Shia LeBeouf notwithstanding.

Dutch original is incredibly tense.

Interestingly, the same director called the shots on the dud Hollywood remake, too.

George Sluizer probably just took the money and ran!

Stars Jeff Bridges and Kiefer Sutherland.

And Sandra Bullock in one of her early roles...

ROCKY WEEK has finished on GO! and after watching the first four movies over four consecutive days, I noticed a few things...

Rocky (1976)

The classic underdog story. It's impossible not to get sucked into Rocky's journey as he goes from the "Bum of the Month Club" to fifteen rounds with the heavyweight champeen of the world. Nominated for ten Academy Awards and won three: Best Picture, Best Director (John G. Alvidsen) and Best Film Editing. Made Stallone a bona fide Hollywood superstar.

Rocky II (1979)

Typically inferior sequel. Stallone was so big after Rocky that the producers and the studio (unwisely) let him WRITE AND DIRECT this half-arsed sequel. It was his first directing gig and it shows. The ridiculous climax to the Rocky/Apollo rematch perfectly sets the tone for the next sequel. Best bit is Mickey's "What're we waiting for?" zinger. Even funnier in different languages. Especially Hungarian.

Rocky III (1982)

Rocky goes GQ smooth. More a live-action cartoon than anything. Pretty sure Hanna-Barbera choreographed the Rocky v Clubber Lang bout. Definitely "something" going on between Rocky and Apollo, too. Only good thing is Survivor’s classic theme song. “Eye of the Tiger” has been used by sports teams ever since. And who the hell won the “decider” between Rocky and Apollo in the gym?

Rocky IV (1985)

Corny and dumb. Made at the height of US-Soviet tensions in the mid-80s, Rocky does his bit to end the Cold War. Stallone even gave a role to his then wife, long-legged blonde Brigitte Nielson alongside her ex Dolph Lungdren. Don't even mention the robot Paulie falls in love with. Sadly, Survivor couldn’t repeat their success with “Burning Heart.” Even sadder, Rocky V was green-lit.

Summary

Sly got more buff, the films got much worse.
