Agree Gozu. It seemed to be such a complex and intertwined series of events that showing it over a dozen episodes was never going to really do it justice. The first one only had to focus on a much more narrow story line and so was covered better.

Can someone tell us a bit more about Blue Murder? Was this a documentary or a previous attempt to dramatise the era?

Blue Murder is considered the best thing the ABC has ever done. From memory it was a two part mini-series and was made in the mid-90's but set in the early 80's. It focus mainly on Roger Rogerson who was the awfully corrupt head of the NSW police force and Neddy Smith (Tony Martin from Wildside) who's an infamous criminal who supposedly had a green light from Rogerson. Gary Sweet plays Chris Flannery. I think it was great aussie drama and gives you a great insight into how crooked the NSW police were. It makes this second series of Underbelly look pretty ordinary, IMO and supposedly the Underbelly writers have been a bit more maleable with the facts and events where as Blue Murder is supposedly considered more accurate and Neddy Smith loved it and watches it every day in prison.

The real crime was that Blur Murder only goes for about three hours and I picked it up on DVD recently for around $13. The ABC obviously trying to cash in on this Underbelly have just re-released it as a "3 disc ultimate edition" last month which is $24 at JB Hi-Fi.

Cheers Gozu, will have to look that up. Perhaps that is why the Underbelly writers wanted to focus so much on the Terry Clarke/drug importation angle rather than the corruption.

Coincidentally there is a review of Blue Murder: Ultimate Edition in the current issue of dB Magazine:

The original Blue Murder (2 disc set) was going for a mere $10 - at least until recently - at JB HIFI. I picked up half a dozen to give to friends unfamiliar with the story.

Bought and watched Underbelly 2 on DVD over the last few days. Have too say it was a major dissappointment. I love the TNA as much as the next bloke, but it was really over the top, and took away from the story. Not that there was much story. Some episodes seemed to have nothing happen in them. Oh well. The first Underbelly was the best Aussie drama since Blue Murder and Bangkok Hilton, so I didn't hold much hope for this one.

I dont think they can top series 1, however since series 3 is apparently going to "link" the 2nd series era with the first then i think the 3rd season will be better than 2nd.

if they had've stuck with the Melbourne Underworld, UB2 would've been a hit- the boring Sydney 5hit put me off...

Despite its obvious flaws, UB2 was still a huge hit.

Pulled close to a 2 mill audience every week.

Problem wasn't Sydney.

It was the scripts, direction, cinematography, editing, and casting...

Does anyone know if the Suzie Kane who has been arrested in conjunction with Des Moran's murder is any relation to Brian or Les Kane?

He probably has the best disguise of all the Morans. Brad likes to get around in the mould of a shite footballer.
