Never seen zodiac, but if you are a fan of serial killer crime dramas then I highly recommend Snowtown. Probably another movie where you have to know a fair bit of the backstory to make it accessible but I thought it handled the subject brilliantly. And the acting by Daniel henshall was superb

Reakon that's the problem with the movie - it's pretty much ALL procedural and facts. Audience really doesn't get a great insight into the private lives of Graysmith, Toschi and Avery. Yeah, we get glimpses here and there but they're lost in all the case file stuff.

Kinda frustrating coz, technically, it's a brilliant film on so many levels. It's just pretty dry and keeps us at a distance. Never really lets us in...

True. Almost more like "here's what happened - deal with it"

Snowtown would be a bit more confronting than Zodiac I'd say.

Neither of these films should be in the worst movies thread really.

Just general movie discussion. Haha

Do we need a "neither good nor bad" movies thread? Haha

The "Meh Movies" thread!

Reakon that would outpost those other threads.

By about 10,472,197-to-1...

Agreed. Zodiac is a fantastic movie (get the director's cut version) and Snowtown is a very well made movie. It's one of the most sad, depressing and powerful films I've ever seen that is still too close to home. I watched it again last weekend as last week was the 15th anniversary since their arrest and it still feels like you're watching a documentary. Justin Kurzel did a great job with Snowtown.

Daniel Henshall was brilliant and he and Justin Kurzel's wife Essie Davis (Phryne Fisher from Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries) star together in new aussie horror/thriller The Babadook which has just come out.

The Rover

Post-apocalyptic movies are nothing new and there's nothing new in this laboured, self-conscious snoozer.

Filmmakers' desperately strive for profundity only exposes the film's paucity.

"Dude, Where's My Car?" has more intellect and depth.

The final scene is unwittingly hilarious.

Are you a grumpy old man?

Thought 21 was hilarious albeit juvenile but it's pretty much par for the course.

Why on earth if you hated the first would you go to the second one? That makes no sense at all

It was the only movie on offer at GC on Sat evening. My missus is 35 and likes simple movies and Channing Tatum, and even she thought it was ordinary. Was one of those movies where you could catch the funny parts in the trailer.

Sorry didn't meet your approval mate, I'll check with ya next time on what Im allowed to dislike ;)

Seems like Diaz and Siegel are just phoning it in these days.

Don't mind some of their stuff but yeah will be giving this one a wide berth.

Clash of the Titans

The remake starring Sam Woodenton.

Even worse than the original with Harry Hamlin.

That 1981 turkey is still the only movie I've ever walked out on...

I've suggested before that Movies as a topic could have its own forum

Whether it would generate enough interest was the push back and I can't really argue with that as it may not,

But cramming all movie discussion into just two mega threads where the poster decides whether it is "good thread" or "bad thread" doesn't seem ideal either.

Just the prevalence of mega threads in general on this forum could be addressed better. I know the admins have tried, it's more the forum users that don't like to start new ones!

a whole bunch of forums would run like this, yes. it encourages more detailed discussion and means threads are less easily derailed
