"Dangerous" a dangerous glorification of crime?

For those of you with Fox, you would have to have been living on Mars to miss the endless promtion of Fox 8's new drama, Dangerous.

For those of you who inhabit the outer reaches of the solar system, Dangerous is a show about a bunch of Western Suburbs (Sydney where else) youngsters who ramraid ATMs for a living. It's all about stealing cars, doing burnouts and ripping off shopkeepers with some typically generic music and characters thrown in to appeal to older teenagers and the twentysomethings.

Do we really need a TV show that glorifies this shit? It's the old 'is it real or is it entertainment' arguement. Check it out...or don't..I don't GAF.

Couldn't you say the same thing about a squillion movies though, many of which have been bestowed some of the highest honours?

FWIW I haven't seen the show, but like you I've seen a gazillion advertisements for it.

agree with ya REB 100% - just ask my 7yo nephew what his fave movie is and does he say "Nemo" or "Cars" nah J's favourite movie is Chopper! yep is permissable in his houshold in fact from probably 5 yo hes watched it and he also stands with his arms across his body in the chopper stance! his family think this is hilarious. Also the games they play on the XBOX can be very graphic and too much for their little brains to comprehend... my ma believes that these adolescents that are running around armed with machetes and other knives etc and at times guns are so conditioned to violence that really do not believe that when they stab, king hit or shoot someone that they run the risk of the other person actually dying... it's a sad state of affairs I say.. I've never seen this show but will take a look now.. thanks for the heads up

I'm hoping that the shitheads get busted and that the cops have the last laugh. But I guess it's DIFFERENT STROKES for different folks. BTW, who mentioned censorship??

its just a tv show, its not real, i was in Sydney's Western suburbs yesterday, its nowhere near as bad as its portrayed.
its no different to how movies can and do glorify other things that are considered wrong.

Watched it last ngiht for the first time - saw one guy get beat up and one crime - not unusual for any TV show these days....quite enjoyed it, nice to see some aussie TV that isnt reality

Great parents.
If he starts acting like Chopper when he's 15 they will probably wonder why.
Then blame society, the school or something else.

Nobody ever mentions censorship, not even the censors and especially not those who advocate boycotting films and television programs they don't approve of.

My daughter is 10 and Happy Feet is about as violent as far as her fav movies go, as for my 7yo son except for the Death Start being blown up I couldn't imagine him watching anything like Chopper, that's appalling!
You need to have a word to your brother/sister/brother in law/sister in law about their parenting skills I feel lc, no disrespect intended.

hmm been there tried that wedgie.. a little hard coming from a me, a person with no kids (believe me it's been thrown in my face enough) grandma certainly tells it like it is though so all hope is not lost.. btw i dont think it's right that's for sure but believe they wouldnt be orphans in being slack about monitoring what their kids are watching etc... again i dont agree with this display of poor parenting and believe we are all products of our environment.
