A YOUNG actress who appeared in the movies Spider-Man 3 and Serendipity has been found dead in her flat two days before her birthday.
Police initially described Lucy Gordon's death as suicide but The Sun reports it is now under investigation and the star's boyfriend is currently being questioned.
A shopkeeper near Gordon's flat told Gala magazine the boyfriend had burst into his shop on Wednesday morning calling for help.
The pair rushed upstairs in la Rue des Petites Ecuries to find Gordon dead.
The boyfriend said he had gone to sleep and awoke to find her dead.
Gordon's father today paid an emotional tribute to his eldest child, 28, describing her as the light of his life.
Speaking from the family home in Oxford, Richard Gordon said her death was a tragedy that had "come out of the blue".
"The whole family is so proud of Lucy, and we always have been," he told The Daily Mail.
"We have loved her so much throughout her life.
"She had been acting since the age of two, which was really as soon as she could walk.
"Her career had been just taking off, and it's a tragedy that it has been cut short so soon."
Friends of Gordon said she had been deeply affected by the recent suicide of a friend back in Britain.
The Oxford-born actress played reporter Jennifer Dugan in the third instalment of Spider-Man and had recently acted in Brief Interviews With Hideous Men.
She also appeared with Heath Ledger in Four Feathers and opposite Kate Beckinsale in Serendipity.
She had just finished work on a biopic of singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, in which she played the 60s actress and singer Jane Birkin.
Trailers from the film, due for release next year, were presented at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
"(The film) owes a lot to the generosity, gentleness and immense talent of Lucy Gordon," said the director, Joann Sfar, and its producers, Marc du Pontavice and Didier Lupfer, in a statement.
She also had a central role in a new French comedy Cineman, due out this year, and starred alongside Audrey Tautou in Les Poupées Russes (The Russian Dolls), a romantic comedy.
Gordon, a former model, was also once the face of cosmetics giant CoverGirl.
