Earning some browny points with the missus, I forgoed the cricket and footy on Friday night because she wanted to go to the opening night. Never, never, never again. Couldn't get in The Garden, tens of thousands of people walking aimlessly through the east end and everywhere adolescent girls in short skirts, plastered make-up and high heels they hadn't learnt how to walk in yet.

I had a horrible experience about 8 or 10 years ago there and have vowed never to return.

Mrs.Boon and I took Junior Boon (then about 3) in from our place at Richmond. Money was tight so we walked in,Junior in the pusher. Got there nice and early on a balmy night, about 32 during the day. Stood right on the corner of the Austral on Rundle St. With about an hour before the Parade the mood was relaxed, few beers, going nicely, then the crowd moved in. 1 mintue I have the pusher in front of me, the next Mrs.Boon is holding Junior and the pusher is folded up. In what seemed like a blink of an eye the crowd packed in so tight around us that Mrs and Junior started to panic. Pushing through the crowd was useless,so, I hoisted the pusher above my head told Mrs to hold the back of my shirt with one hand and Junior in the other arm and I barged, literally dropping people with raised elbows as I went past. One drunken reveller on a table out the front of the Austral saw me coming and began to cheer me on " GO MAN GO!" he was yelling, he then switched to a Moses like stance as he parted the crowd and I fled down the alley way next to the pub away from the crowd Mrs and Junior in tow. I have not been back.

Haha, gold story Booney...."Go Man Go!"

My missus just wanted to take it in and make insightful, yet witty observations about every teen-going-on-21 that walked past. I was bored after about a minute. I need purpose. And that purpose was cricket and/or football on TV. Worst part is that, after complaining most of the time, I don't think I earnt any browny points.
