Don't reckon there'll be any real surprises as the only really open category is Best Supporting Actress.
Even though there's a big buzz around Juno at the moment I can't see it causing an upset for Best Picture. Working in its favour is that it's the only upbeat film nominated. That it's the best film nominated (and it is!) really doesn't have anything to do with anything.
Paul Thomas Anderson might get Best Adapted Screenplay as consolation to missing out to the Coens on the Oscar he really wants - Best Director. Having said that, Anderson deserves the BAS Oscar because his beautiful script is clearly superior to to the other nominees (even with that awful final scene.)
Anyway, here's my predictions for the major categories...
Best Film: No Country For Old Men
Best Director: Joel & ethan Coen (No Country For Old Men)
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Best Actress: Julie Christie (Away From Her)
Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men)
Best Supporting Actress: Ruby Dee (American Gangster)
Best Original Screenplay: Diablo Cody (Juno)
Best Adapted Screenplay: Joel & Ethan Coen (No Country For Old Men)
