I'm sure that there has all been times when we have: wanted to throw the radio against a wall, shaken our heads in amazement at another stupid statement from KG, thought that he is a few bricks short of a pallett and wondered at how someone can be so hypocritical!!

However there is one thing about KG is that he has a genuine love of footy and cricket, in particular SA footy and cricket. He may be a relic of the past but like all things we wont know how much we miss him until he is gone. I for one look forward to listening to him whenever I'm back in Adelaide. Don't know why really but I just do.

FWIW about 15 years ago the old officials at the Bay were talking about umpires and from the 1950s to the 1990s to a man they all rated KG the best umpire they ever saw. Consistancy and ability to communicate with the players were his strengths i.e. he didn't talk down to them.

His passion for all things SA, in particular SA footy were never more apparent that at Glenelg Footy club function in 1994 in when he spoke about the life and times of Stan Whickham.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Agree with all the comments above however I believe he has past his used by date - unless they discuss cricket or footy he has no idea, for a professional broadcaster these days he should at the very least have a "working knowledge" of every popular sport even if it is reading the sports pages back to front.

You are a wise man, Dutchy.

KG was a fantastic footy umpire and State cricketer - his record on those fronts speaks for itself. However, media in 2006 demands more than just parochial rantings. In the internet age (can KG work a browser?), sports broadcasters need a "working knowledge" (well put, Dutchy) of all major sports events around the globe.

I think he is good for football and cricket but he tends to get on his high horse a bit much in my opinion.

I couldn't understand his getting himself in a lather over what Derryn Hinch said about David Hookes' family situation about 18 months ago. Regardless of who said it, what Hinch said was right but it seems like people like KG and the rest of the media want to keep pushing the angle that David and his ex-wife Robyn were still together when he died, which they weren't. The times that he has interviewed her since he has still kept pushing this barrow. All I can put it down to is the fact that because he was a good friend of David's, he likes to remember the good family life he once had, not what it had become at the time of his death.

Perhaps they'll bring back Fat Cat?

His commentary would be more understandable than KG's, if nothing else...
