POPULAR Australian author Robert G Barrett has died at his home in Terrigal, on the NSW Central Coast.
Barrett is best-known for his character Les Norton, who first appeared in the 1984 novel You Wouldn't Be Dead For Quids.

Barrett, believed to have been in his 70s, died peacefully last night following a long battle with cancer.

He started his working life as a butcher at Bondi before turning to writing in a larrikin style that was deliberately politically incorrect.

His books have sold more than one million copies. He also appeared in a number of films and TV commercials.

I am shattered as a fan of his books. I love reading his books always have.
