Ten will expect blockbuster ratings, especially coming off the back of today's Federal Election announcement.

Wouldn't surprise to see future telemovies about Keating and Howard.

Tampa would make a gripping political thriller.

Reakon you could do something like Frost/Nixon with Dunstan and Salisbury...

Been looking forward to this one for weeks, should be a cracker. Richard Roxburgh, in the shorts, looks to have nailed many of the mannerisms. Felix Williamson looks set to play Keating with that careful, detached air associated with the former PM.

A collection of scenes searching for a narrative.

Should've either made a mini-series where they could explore stuff more.

Or focused the story more. Hawke v Keating. Too much was skimmed over.

Some of the out-of-era dialogue particularly grated. C-U-Next Tuesday? Leave that to Sex & the City where it belongs.

One-note caricatures didn't help, especially Keating.

Bob's larrikinism strayed into parody a little too often...

Interesting call but I thought Hawke wasn't aimed at shall we say a politcally aware audience. This was entertainment, not documentary. What you were looking for in Hawke was already covered by Labor in Power.

C-U-Next Tuesday...yeah that was pretty dodgy, I haven't heard that one before let alone during the 1980's. This was an Underbelly take on the Hawke era with Blanche being elevated to a person of national importance just to get the sex scenes in.

I thought that it was pretty good viewing overall and I thought that the chap who played Bob Hawke was quite good.

Overall okay, but skimmed over a hell of a lot. Also interesting that they only showed the one challenge by Keating. That was in fact his second challenge after he was beaten soundly six months previously and spent that six months on the back bench. It did however make Graham Richardson look like the pratt I always suspected he was.
Roxburgh's performance was very good as was Williamson who played Keating.
As Magpiespower and REB The mention of CU Next Tuesday is pretty dodgy, and it did have that annoying thing of showing people from the 70's with current haircuts (Dallas Brooks Hall scene early on) which so many shows that have scenes from the 70s do these days. It's a fairly major detail to get wrong IMO.

The haircuts didn't bother me, mainly because I wasn't around in the '70's...
