Since Rick is such a good bloke and doing a top job, how about we actually spell his surname correctly - MacGOWAN.

Their whole immediate family are great people.
His old man, Dusty, is an absolute legend back home.
His brother Damien is also pretty handy at footy (and said by some to be better) but retied long ago and went farming.
Driving home last year i saw damien by the side of the road digging fence post holes, by hand.
he dug 300 holes, about a meter deep by hand in two days.
Freak.
But their so honest, have good core values and i think if you've got some good core values and philosophies, you're a long way to having the full and unwavering respect of your players, why Rick is such a good coach.

I'm friends with someone who is a cousin of Rick's, and they're very similar to the description you've given Silly Sky.
An old friend of mine is from the West Coast, near them, and rates them very highly also.
Rick's a former tennis champ yeah?

Yeah, and Damien is a gun too.
Not that i like tennis but his name remains as number one spot for the Darke Peak Tennis A grade team.
No mean feat, they're a ruthless bunch of tennis players.
And Heater, if i was driving home, out bush, and i saw Damien digging holes on his farm, i was very close to Darke Peak.
Lol.
So yeah.

I dunno about an AFL club snatching Rick up though....would they? He's unknown to virtually everyone in the AFL system, not too many players with an exclusive SANFL background in coach's boxes.

I agree DW, that may dampen his prospects.
Has Rick stated he has ambitions to coach AFL anywhere?

I've not read of anything.
He's got business interests hasn't he? That might preclude him from immersing himself further into footy.

Perhaps not "wound up" enough to be an AFL coach either. Too much personality, too honest with the media.

I'd say he would have ambitions to coach at the highest level but would be smart enough to know it isn't going to happen straight away.
Sadly, for Sturt, I think he may only be with us for 2-3 years before he steps up to an AFL assistant level.

Two to three years would be a pretty good lifespan for a coach.

I have been wondering for a while where this "backhome" place is, alot of my country mates talk about it.. is it near Hawker?

They're are all talented sports people in their own right. I even managed to jag a couple of wins against 'Jacko' (Damien) when playing tennis against him. I spoke to Gavin Colville early in the year during pre season and he couldn't speak highly enough of Rick and he said that Sturt had got a good one. How right he was!

I grew up on the Eyre Peninsula, and from memory Damian is Rick's cousin not brother, but someone else might be able to confirm that.

I started a topic after Sturt had won 3 games praising Rick and people told me I was crazy and that it was too early to tell if he'd improved Sturt or not!
It takes some longer than others to work out things.
