Half time at an unusually muddy Noarlunga

SA 1.7
NA 2.6

The highlights package of that half will be brief.

With pretty much the season on the line ….

To play like this today was bitterly disappointing

Energy and intensity from last weeks win completely vanished in a week.

Goal kicking comical at times.

Season done.

South had 9 players who have played only a handful of games, and these kids show promise eg Tucker, Bedford, Draper, Shillabeer
Given the heavy conditions I can't question their effort
Unfortunately they lack the poise and experience for the big moments, and we didn't have experienced players who could influence the outcome in the way that Szekely (in particular) and Combe did for North
Brooksby having a great year and dominating the ruck, but South need him up forward as well
South get some good players back in next week or two, but will continue to rely on improvement and getting game time into the rookies
Given a reasonable run with injuries going forward I imagine South should be competitive in games, but not sure we can win many games without a lot more polish with ball use
Having said that it's pretty easy to criticise from afar, and I'm sure the group are working on it

Conditions were very difficult today with both the very heavy ground and a cruel cross wind. I thought South had a real go and controlled much of the game with, as always Brooksby the dominant big man. Jesse White did compete though. North kicked 3 goals in 5 minutes early in the third quarter and otherwise it was 3 goals each for the rest of the game.
A couple of South players who I knew little about in Shillabeer and Bedford impressed me, although they both missed goals that they should have kicked, even in those conditions. In addition to Brooksby, I thought that Davis, Haines, Sampson and Clavarino all played to their usual standard. Who did South give their awards too?
North struggled with the conditions for much of the day, I thought that it was Gowers, best game for the club, Mayes was fantastic after half time. I wonder if he got a rocket after late in the second quarter giving away an undisciplined free when North had the free and a 25 metre penalty and were moving into a potential scoring position.
Spina and Campbell Combe were also very good although Spina turned the ball over more than usual. One again the treacherous conditions could be to blame.
Andrew Moore got 37 touches in the Reserves and he and Keenan Ramsey should make a difference to North in the coming weeks.
A big game coming up at Alberton this week. One thing for sure is that Alberton shouldn't worry North given there exceptional record there.

Really disappointing effort from South.
Skill errors eventually proved crucial- turning the ball over with forward entries and North beating us on the way back.
3-4 set shots for goal from 25m which all missed were crucial in the outcome.
North had far more contributors across the ground. I thought Cavalino was our best by quite a margin.
Some of our bigger names really need to have a look at themselves.

815 was the reported attendance, undoubtedly the lowest recorded between the two clubs.

Noarlunga crowds have been a worry the past few seasons, with the average lingering at around 1200.

I have been going to league footy for over 60 years, and that is the smallest crowd that I have ever seen at a league game,
We all are benefiting from the AFL now covering the SANFL on their website, but I am sure it is impacting upon crowds, especially on inclement days.

Given current cost of living not much im going to drive down from Clare to watch SANFL games now that i can watch them from home. I'm obviously not there target audience given where i live but im sure many closer to games than me are making the same choice.
