Don’t remember Barlow, but that Chambers could play ;)

WTF is up with Oval Ave? I thought the standard of Unley Oval was looking poor but man, this is something else. Sub standard for a second-tier comp surely?

I assume your talking playing surface. It does look poor. It always was immaculate. I'm not sure if the council has cut back on fertilizer or such. Covid should have not had any impact on maintenance.

Unlike Unley, which gets fertilised daily...

Besides the surface at oval ave we’ve all noticed it .

But are we in 2020 or the 1970s or 80s . Sturts coach’s comments could probably be heard on port road lmao .
Any kids there today would’ve learned some new words
I won’t write them on here but F this F that F F F and it didn’t work to inspire Sturt
Number 6 ex south I believe did he do a preseason ?
Sumner ? In the seconds any reason why .

Great game eagles well ok it was a win and a win is a win

Ive noticed this with many ovals. It is a pest that has been treated on most surfaces . Glenelg and Unley have been in terrific condition for years now and they are looking a bit ordinary. Woodville and many others look poor.

Davis has been in a good paddock (or bakery!). sturt won't win too many games with the negative style they played today. Lacked targets up forward as well.
J Hayes will not be playing next week (shoulder, hopefully not too serious) but will have back Redden, Poole and hopefully Goldy.
Another even team performance and well done to Zane Williams on debut today - our tenth debutant for the club this year. Well done Sheedy on promoting youth and refreshing the team.

Bit rich an Eagles supporter having a go an overweight player, you blokes haven't had your skin fold calipers calibrated in years.

I bet if he ate what I eat in a day he’d lose weight .
Honestly a SANFL league player at his second club should fit into a Sturt jumper

Well done Jordan West for a great game. After being completely destroyed against South (Hunter) last week he bounced back with perhaps one of his best games for the club. He will become more and more important for us given Redden can only have maybe 1 year at most for us. During West's first year with the club about two years ago he certainly looked like a promising prospect for us and I believe was also invited to trial at the SA Draft Combine that year. Since then for whatever reason his form dropped right off. If he keeps that effort up for the rest of the year it is going to further create competition for for all those in our League side to keep on their toes.

Loved it how Sheedy mixed the team up a bit in the second half to give players an opportunity to play in a position they wouldn't normally. Rowe always gets a tonne of the ball in the midfield when he is in there demonstrating the is not just a one position player. Jones up forward looked incredibly dangerous and may find more time up there if Hayes is out for a few weeks. I would have loved to see Mansell be moved into the midfield for a bit because his lace-out passing would be a huge asset to our forwards.

Tsitas - not flashy and you won't ever see him racing down the wing bouncing the ball. He flys under the radar but just seems to rack up positions and perhaps would have been in our best players in his first couple of games. I guess with a full team its going to come down to a choice between him and Poole.

Did Lowson play in the reserves? Anyone see how he went?

Mr Fuller. Jordan West did play well but assess the quality of ruckman he was up against. With due respect to Sturt's ruckmen, they are way inferior to South (Hunter) Norwood (Baulderstone) , North and Glenelg. And Sturt's Bennett was injured and played only half a game. Unfortunately, Jordan has lost the leap he had 2 years ago, and unlike Redden, who also doesn't leap much, Jordan gets pushed out too easily. The Club won't be relying on Jordan to carry us the next few years and Liam Buxton-Whale was a disappointing loss on the eve of the season. But Westie is likely to have 2-3 more games to show his worth against the good sides, now that Jack Hayes is out of action for a few weeks. Let's hope Redden returns next week - he played a "ripper" against Baulderstone last time.

Sam Lowson didn't do much in the Seconds. But the Seconds played badly, first loss of the season, with terrible entry into the forward line, not helped by the blustery conditions. It was probably the first match Sam has played since 5 months ago in a trial game (perhaps) for Coburg in late February. His fitness would be way down and especially match fitness. Might take 3 weeks before he's considered. Highlights reel on youtube look good.

James Tsitsas, in contrast, appears to have taken up the pace of SANFL incredibly well. Has the "footy smarts". Disagree that he is vying with Angus Poole - I would have Tsitsas way ahead with classy disposals although respect Angus's tenacity. Room for both.

Definitely think Sturt would be better off with a fully fit Davis. Didn't recognise him from the player he was last year.

This is West's fourth year of senior football with the Eagles:
2017..........10 games
2018.......... 1 game
2019.......... 6 games
2020.......... 2 games

His first year, 2017 was by far his best. Has gone backwards ever since, can't see any future for him at the Eagles. Has to be more aggressive and involved. The U18's have two promising ruckmen in Henry Smith (son of former West Torrens player-Justin Smith) and Zac Phillips they rate with the best in the U18 competition at the moment. Don't think they will get drafted in 2020, they still need a lot of development, but could be handy in the future, would rather develop these two.

I think his development was stymied by having two very good ruckman - Parry and Redden - present during this period. He was never going to be able to displace them and only ever be the backup ruckman when one of them was injured or suspended. Part of the problem is that he doesn't really have the versatility to play another position aside from ruck. So if we ever did play him alongside Parry/Redden then we'd be using up a valuable spot on the bench that would be better allocated to a midfielder. I'm sure his developed was impacted because of this.

I don't agree that he has lost his leap. I don't think he had a huge leap to begin with. But he is far from someone who can't get off the ground like Redden or Baulderstone. I hope he hangs around next season because Redden just looks slower and slower and he may not have too much left. At that point we'd want to have someone who can slot straight in compete with these bigger bodies. It is very difficult for a kid straight from the U18s to do this (no matter how good they might eventually be) and if we aren't able to get Buxton back here next year. I'd hope he does hang around but could definitely see him wanting more opportunities at another club next year.
