...including former goal-scoring defender Rodney Maynard, and (perhaps more interestingly) Joe Tripodi.

Rodney Maynard one of five new inductees for Norwood Hall of Fame

RODNEY Maynard’s endless love for Australian football is now captured in the Norwood Football Club’s Hall of Fame.

The Redlegs last night recognised the much-admired Maynard as one of five new members of the club’s Hall of Fame that has grown to 63 inductees since its 2006 launch.

Norwood also honoured former president Joe Tripodi for his six decades of commitment to the Redlegs on and off the field, 1997 premiership player Jerry D’Antiochia and early pioneer players Alf Grayson and Guy Stephens.

The board announced last night it will amend the club’s Hall of Fame charter to introduce the “Legend” status next year when the Redlegs celebrate their 140th anniversary.

Maynard’s induction at The Parade follows his honour with the SA Football Hall of Fame two years ago.

Recruited from Lameroo North where he has continued to serve the game, Maynard played 157 games for Norwood and 81 games for the Crows.

D’Antiochia emerged from the Norwood juniors to become a league premiership hero in 1997 while playing 204 SANFL games from 1986-1999.

Tripodi, a junior and reserves player in 1957-58, is hailed for his off-field leadership, salvaging Norwood’s financial position while president from 2006-13 when he also led the board to building on-field success with flags in 2012 and 2013.

Grayson is one of the original Redlegs playing in the club’s 1888, 1889, 1891 and 1894 premierships.

Stephens played 156 games in a career interrupted by war as he took on every on-field position except wing from 1911-1927.

By inducting Tripodi they've tarnished the Legs Hall of Fame and dishonored the great Legs players and adminstrators who genuinely deserve the honour.

Wouldn't it be ironic if those who determine the Redlegs' HoF entrants now told Joe that they weren't going to let him in.
