Expectations of Sturt this season

Postby Millsie89 » Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:58 pm

I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion on where Sturt will finish this year.

I'd argue that Sturt's midfield brigade is one of the best in the comp. Obviously the loss of Kurtze will hurt but Osborn is still able to provide the midfield with good first use of the ball (won't do half as much around the ground as Kurtze did). Then their defence is very strong also. The forward line is their obvious deficiency with Beard to be used predominantly as a Key Forward this year in tandem with the resting ruck. But there are a good bunch of small forwards/midfielders who can kick goals.

I'm obviously biased but I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts!

Good midfield but ATM they don't seem to have anyone to kick to. Reckon they will be 5-7 range

Will surprise many this year.

Can see them in the Top 3.

Reckon Mattner will bring something that has been missing in the last few years.

I think the fact that Marty Mattner is a full time coach will have a positive influence on the teams performance.

Surely not having to work and then coach is a major bonus.

I think the High Performance Manager is also a new appointment (i.e. never had one before).

I'm not sure how the team will perform this season. I seriously doubt the team will be at the bottom, but not convinced they'll be top 3. That said, I'll be surprised if they don't make the finals.

That's a pretty fair assessment I reakon, if all goes well. However, like North, the Bays and South it will depend on the results these 4 have against each other and continuity of having their best team on the park more often than not.

From what he did at Sydney (coaching wise) he will need quite a few knowledgeable guys behind the scenes :)

This is about where I expect them to finish up. I think they'll challenge for a finals spot.

But definitely feel like their odds don't reflect where they are as a team.

Expect us to be highly competitive despite key losses.

Mattner will bring both toughness and renewed passion to the boys. Maybe 4th with hopes of higher.
