The Advertiser 'so disappointing' again

Not sure why I subscribe except for the racing.
Pages and pages of AFL rehash rehash rehash,
as my friends say nobody reads it.
My disappointment follows the Reserses Grand final.
I am not an Eagles follower,
but I do follow the reserves comp and yesterday's final was a ripper,
well done the victors and the roosters for a terrific game.
Firstly no teams were announced on Friday or Saturday with a preview of the game,
a worthy contest was imminent, the top team was undefeated all year.
What an effort.
No report of the brilliant final, just a few incomplete stats in this mornings paper.
Again well done the Eagles.
Not sure why I subscribe except for the racing.

If its Racing you want, spend the money on 'Winning Post' :D

Whilst the SAdvertiser is as informative as a Tony Abbott speech written in wingdings, I'm not at all surprised there's no reserves GF coverage given the current footy landscape in this state. Pity, in a way, because the Eagles' undefeated effort was an amazing effort for any competition.

If you also said they didn't include a write up of the league game as well I wouldn't be surprised either.

Hard to get a write up of the game when the publication's 'chief' writer isn't even in the Press box

Didn't think the SMA let monkeys, let alone typewriters, into Adelaide Oval these days.

The Tiser's coverage of just about anything (other than 1 Adelaide AFL team) is terrible. It will be interesting to see how much coverage there is for the AFL GF over the next few days, as opposed to a few more "Danger" - where is he going stories.... and other associated AFC tripe!

The version I'm thumbing through at work has a photo on the back and front, double page poster in the middle, and a double page recap in the sports section. Probably about what you'd expect from the advertiser. A bit more analysis (i.e a review or rating of each player) would have been nice.

The half hourly 'Patty D' updates on facebook are getting tiresome, might be time to block them for a while (or permanently)

He was hobnobbing it at the Chairman's lunch
I couldn't get close enough to lob a bread roll at him
Mind you, he would've just scooped it up and eaten it

you honestly think there should have been a big write up in the paper about a reserves flag?

that would have about as much interest as a local GF to be honest.

reckon soemthing like foot-e-times would be the way to go for this sort of coverage - they have linked the sanfl website http://www.sanfl.com.au/news/sanfl_news/3210/

Crows and Power 2's get a write up every week. Why can't any other club's seconds get one for going undefeated ;)

Personal opinion

Can't fault The Advertisers coverage today - Game mentioned over 8 pages including editorial.

Accept yes a reserves report would have been nice BUT I just think those days have past.
SANFL web site & Football Budget cover that competition pretty well.
There is just minimal interest,
That is the problem with "reserves" competition, something the SANFL must always avoid becoming.

Key factor though is coverage pregame to generate interest.

My level of expectation here is
- 1 page in sports section and 1 supporter/community themed piece in general for 5-6 days leading up to game
- double page previews on Saturday / Sunday
- Rundle Mall photo (Captains with cup) to be front & centre on Page 1 of Sunday Mail.

On that front there was a good degree of coverage BUT it fell a little short.

This is the coverage we used to get even in AFL era 12-15 years ago.

Should certainly be the level if both SA-AFL teams are out of action.

Forgot they also did the team posters during the week which needs to be recognised.

Weekly Times Messenger which covers the area for both clubs

delayed their editorial schedule (which is very rare)

to ensure both clubs got a page of coverage each in the paper

plus they had lead photo on Page1
and Westies Prelim Final match report in sport.

The absolute minimum the teams should have been printed and full results!
2 hours on the main stage after all,who cares about the music!

The Messenger always gives good coverage to the SANFL, especially during the finals.

Sometimes with The Advertiser it feels like if it isn't the Crows, Power or AFL in general then its not really worth covering.
