2nd Semi Final - WWT v West Adelaide

Figured now its Thursday afternoon & no-one had done a thread for this game, someone should.
Reckon the SANFL is praying these 2 don't meet again in 2 weeks or the Crowd could be the worst figure in a VERY long time!

As far as this game goes:
WWT have a history of not performing all that well in 2nd Semi Finals.
Westies played very well after 1/4 time last week to easily account for the Power Reserves.
WWT have been the best team for most of the Year & will be very happy with all 3 sides finishing Minor Premiers & winning the Stanley H Lewis.

That said, reckon the Bloods could have their measure.
West Adelaide by 15 points.

It will be interesting to see whether the eagles playing only 1 match in 3 weeks is a help or a hinderance.

Prior to last weekend I would have been confident of the eagles easily beating westies. But having watched west beat the power on Sunday I was mightily impressed with how well they played. From afar, one of their strengths seems to be their forward line with multiple marking options and small forwards providing different options to goal.

I am going to tip the eagles by 15 points with absolutely no confidence.

Woodville-West Torrens coach Michael Godden is facing several selection headaches as he prepares to name his squad of 23 today to face West Adelaide in the Second Semi-Final at Adelaide Oval.

Declaring the Eagles were itching to get involved in this year’s finals series after earning the week off, Godden has a completely healthy list to choose from entering the major round.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 2011 premiership mentor confirmed star midfielder James Boyd would come under serious consideration after collecting 44 disposals in his most recent Reserves outing.

Godden revealed only around 17 spots in his side were safe, leaving him with at least four places to fill as the club’s Reserves prepare for their first final on Saturday.

The Eagles’ League and Reserves teams went head-to-head in an internal trial match last weekend, Godden describing the clash as hotly contested as players put their hand up for promotion.

Last year’s Elimination Final loss to South was the Eagles’ fourth in succession, providing Godden’s charges with plenty to prove against the Bloods from 3.10pm on Sunday.

Eagles hopefully

Since 1953 the West Torrens section has had a massive hoodoo in finals. Woodville was not much better.
West are also a boogie side of the eagles.
i wish i was more confident

For Westies, Silverlock did a hammy and will miss this week.
Porpylzia hopefully will play after hurting his neck/shoulder.
Expect Francis, Homburg and Daniel Webb to come in to the squad.

Both teams play strong attacking footy. Both had 3 players in the top 10 goal kickers list and both have a strong forward line set up. I think the Eagles are just that bit stronger around the ground and did finish clear ahead of the rest.
A fortnight off, no problem and having a full list to choose from is a great position to be in for the coach.
I'm tipping WWT by 15-20 points in hopefully what turns out to be an open, high scoring game.

It is a shame about the crowd these two might attract as they are by far the best two footballing teams in the league and a good advert for the comp.

WEST
West Adelaide coach Mark Mickan has opted not to risk wingman Taite Silverlock for Sunday’s Second Semi-Final against the Eagles at Adelaide Oval.
Sidelined during the second half of the Bloods’ Qualifying Final win, Silverlock was forced to spend the rest of the match off the ground with ice strapped to his leg.
The left-footer will now focus on recovering in time for the club’s next outing, which could be in the Preliminary Final should the Bloods succumb to the minor premier.
Three players have been included in Mickan’s 23-man squad but which one replaces Silverlock will be decided before the bounce.
Experienced key forward Daniel Webb has again been named in the extended squad while star AFL Draft prospect Aaron Francis returns from a bout of the flu.
But the most realistic replacement would be Nick Homburg, who has regularly played on the wing for the Bloods and is closest to Silverlock in height and weight given he measures in at 182cm and 78kg.
Veteran forward Jason Porplyzia has been listed in the forward pocket despite hurting his neck in the victory against the Magpies in the final term.
The former Crow was able to return to the ground with extra strapping, indicating he should be fit to confront the Eagles.

F: Porplyzia, Willits, Fielke
HF: Green, Tuck, Beech
C: Helbig, Stevens, Schiller
HB: Caire, Hartlett, Wasley-Black
B: Anderson, Keough, Hill

R: Middleton, Schmidt, Snelling
INT: Hardy, Haysman, Francis, Webb, Homburg
IN: Webb, Francis, Homburg
OUT: Silverlock (hamstring)

EAGLES
Woodville-West Torrens coach Michael Godden has rolled the dice at selection with the inclusion of star midfielder James Boyd for Sunday’s Second Semi-Final against West at Adelaide Oval.
Despite not playing at league level since injuring his groin in Round 10, Boyd has been named to start in the centre square from 3.10pm.
The 2010 premiership player has been steadily building match fitness during the past month, with his most recent Reserves outing yielding 44 disposals in an impressive display.
Boyd has been joined in the Eagles’ 23-man squad by running defender Nathan Batley and former Essendon rookie Fraser Thurlow.
Thurlow could provide relief for Marc Borholm in the ruck, while also presenting himself as an enticing marking option in attack amid the expected fine conditions.
Giles Ellis and Matthew Raymond are the unlucky players sent back to the Reserves, with Godden to consider playing two more from his extended interchange in Saturday’s Reserves Second Semi-Final.

F: Poole, Wundke, C. Hall
HF: Petrenko, Ainger, McGregor
C: Allmond, Lewis, Martyn
HB: Goldsworthy, Thompson, Jarrad
B: P. Raymond, Von Bertouch, Giuffreda

R: Borholm, Rowntree, Boyd
INT: Schwarz, Thurlow, N. Hayes, Appleton, Batley
IN: Boyd, Batley, Thurlow
OUT: Ellis, M. Raymond

I can't see Westies having Hartlett lose across half back as he was last week, Mason Shaw and Mitch Harvey let him do as he pleased, that will stop the run from the back for Westies a bit. Ainger and Wundke offer much more presence in the F50.

Eagles to win, by 23 points.
