Round 19 - Norwood v W/WT Eagles

Full Time
Norwood 7.8 (50)
Eagles 9.7 (61)
Reserves Full Time
Norwood 7.11 (53)
Eagles 11.9 (75)
Not a good day for Norwood. Miss out on the double chance in the league and deposited out of the finals at the 11th hour in the reserves after spending 15 of the 19 rounds in the top five and were sitting in 2nd from round's 9 to 15.
Eagles finished the reserves with a perfect 18-0 record with an average winning margin of 44.9 points. They haven't conceded over 72 points in a match and no side has gotten within two goals by the final siren.
The Eagles will be pleased with James Boyd who had a blinder in the 2's and was named best after 44 disposals, 13 clearances and a goal in only his second game back from injury.

Very poor season from the club. Started with terrible recruiting. Cant keep losing a dozen players at the end of each season and stay at the top. This current Norwood side is by far the weakest we have had in years

Attacking a fraction more might be a plan ffs......
And where is your large supporter base ( unlike us ) especially after 3 flags in a row, that match yesterday was the most important
of all minor round matches?
Maybe that's where our comp has gone?!
Does anyone not think if we now played a SANFL finals with over three weeks with our 4 top teams ( no pro's ) it would feel right
and we would all move on ready for 2016.... No Gayfl finals infestation

Attacking more definately wouldnt hurt.
I wasnt there yesterday as like many others local footy finals are our first priority.
I cant see us getting anywhere near the Dogs this week

Both teams were strong defensively and in tight in the middle yesterday. The difference was one team can kick clutch goals and the other team couldn't. Eagles gonna take a power of beating from here. We put in one of our best performances for the season yesterday, but the Eagles stuck fat and absorbed some lengthy periods of pressure, then stood up to be counted in attack at crucial moments. Thats what Premiership sides do. Obviously they're not there yet, but if they play like that it's going to take a supreme performance to stop them.

Both teams are ultra defensive , only 2 goals in it so Norwood would fancy their chances if they came across them in the finals. I hope these two don't play each other as it would be a woeful promotion.

Summed it up well JK. Wasn't a pretty game to watch but had a finals like intensity to it. Eagles possibly only 2 players off their best side with both Boyd and Thurlow performing well in the seconds. Probable outs for them being Raymond and Ellis. Both of these are future league players along with Whittlesea, Dunstan, Rowland, Sinor and a couple of others. These are the players the Eagles will be under intense pressure from other clubs to hold onto in 2016.

Agree Wedgetail it was a great game to watch and I though Norwoods intensity was of a very high level. I liked Sam Martyns goal from outside 50 to give us the lead in the last quarter, he has come a long way this year. I understand he is mentored by one of the Eagles stalwarts who has always believed in his ability so it is great to see him grab a regular spot in our team,

Must have been riveting. ......end to end quick movement and 9 goals to 7. Great viewing.
Norwood fans getting in early to claim a ....I told you so loss.

It wasn't always pretty but the game was in the balance for the entirety of the match, so both sets of supporters seemed well into it

Was an excellent second half, very intense, couple of Norwood errors let the Eagles in. The second gamer for Eagles (Ellis) couldn't get in the game except in the last 2 minutes when he tucked the ball under his arm, broke a line and gave it to Martyn to do the finishing. As noted above, the crowd was right into it. Norwood not far off.

SAAFL finals last Saturday so plenty would have gone there
I will go along on Sunday but if they play this "slingshot" U8 game plan they wont see me again and I won't be renewing my membership
I'd rather go and watch real football in the ammos or country where there is actually a forward line

Hang in there Jimmy. There was lots to like about the improvement on Saturday...it was one of our best efforts for the year.

I'd think the style will come under a bit of scrutiny in the off-season too and should have an element of change about it.

Hearing a player dropped from Norwood seniors, failed to show up to play reserves on Saturday.

Be patient Jimmy. Styles of football are cyclical. You just had to watch the Crows Vs Eagles match to see the AFL is turning to a more attacking style. The SANFL clubs will latch on soon.
