STURT
Sturt could spring a surprise by calling up former Geelong forward Brad Hartman for his first league game against South at Peter Motley Oval on Saturday.
Hartman, who played five AFL games for the Cats last year, returned to Sturt this season after losing the passion to play at the highest level.
But Double Blues General Manager of Football, Shane Grimm, said the 20-year-old – who measures in at 188cm and 86kg - was enjoying his footy again in 2015.
‘’He’s certainly getting closer to playing,’’ Grimm said of Hartman, originally from Murray Bridge club Ramblers.
‘’He’s got over the disappointment of not playing in the AFL and is certainly enjoying himself again so he’s not far away.
‘’He’s another inside midfielder who can also play up forward which is something we really need.’’
Hartman has been joined in the 23-man squad by forward Sam Smith, who has been listed on the extended interchange bench.
Key forwards Matthew Duldig and Lee Staple will resume from injury in the Reserves as will running defender Matt Crocker, who has recovered from a serious thigh strain.

SOUTH
South Adelaide coach Brad Gotch has enhanced his defensive options in the lead up to Saturday’s clash with Sturt at Peter Motley Oval.
With key backman Josh Giddings to miss at least a fortnight with a hamstring strain, Gotch has called upon Luke Durdin and Sam Tharaldsen (21, 190cm and 90kg) to join his 23-man squad.
Tharaldsen, originally from Flagstaff Hill, is yet to play at league level with the Panthers after making his debut last season as a development player with Adelaide’s SANFL side.
‘’He’s been in good form in the Reserves and is able to play on the talls and smalls,’’ South football manager Neill Sharpe said of Tharaldsen.
‘’He grew late in the piece and I think his football improved with his growth spurt.’’
Durdin (193cm and 88kg) is yet to play a league game this season after having a modified build-up due to a serious hamstring injury last year.
Alex Cailotto also returns to the line-up to be named at full-back while Emmanuel Irra and Tyson Brown add flexibility on the extended interchange bench.
Michael Ross (fractured hand) is expected to be sidelined for two weeks.

First game with Crabb as Sole Captain. Expect him to stamp his authority all over this game.

Possible the best full back in the league.

Expect boys to lift and win this game!!!!

A really tough one to predict.

South have won the past 3 but Sturt won at Unley last Year.

A toss-up. Sturt by 9 points.

South up by 31 at half time but has wasted chances and should have a 10 goals lead , might come back to bite them

Thank goodness it didn't come back to bite them.

Should have won by more. Good to see Eddy kick a few today.

Matty Rankine with a mark of the year contender too

11.15 to 6.6

Goal Kickers: B. Eddy 4, M. Rankine , B. Seccull , X. Gotch , J. Veide , B. Macleod , J. Cross , N. Schwarz
Best Players: , M. Rose , B. Macleod , B. Seccull , J. Veide , B. Eddy , J. Cross

Decent enough win, although margin could/should have been far greater really. Sturt very poor, little pressure applied to South while their skills were terrible.

103 extra possessions for South, Sturt won the hitouts 55-28 yet lost the clearances 24-44. Would have been a season high for marks inside 50 for South I'd say.

Rose BOG, good to see Macleod find some form, liked Schwarz in close, while Eddy having 7 or 8 shots on goal is a better sign.

Best for Sturt was probably trainer #2.

Sturt won the ressies by 3 goals.

Barring something pretty amazing and unexpected, that's curtains for the Blues you'd think.

Scrappy Game of footy.
Skills were poor from both sides at different times during the day.
Did Tom Harms do a knee or ankle?
(He has already done his knee once before)
Reasonable Crowd, I thought

Marks I50 were 18-10 our way - kicked 5.7 to 3.3 from them.

Wasn't too fazed about being dominated in the hit outs as they didn't proportionately translate into hit outs to advantage. We ran them off their feet with 114 handball receives to 66 but also dominated at the ground, belting them in the ball gets (85-61) and cont poss (123-95), including 100+ disposals while still having superior tackling pressure.

One of the better South wins I've been to but it could (and really should) have been a lot bigger margin.

We were pretty bad. Too many instances where the team just wasn't working together. One south goal from the north eastern pocket resulted from a stoppage where the Sturt blokes just stood back and watched a panther receive the hit out, then run on to a distance where he couldn't miss. At other times handballs were directed to players who perhaps should've been there to receive, but as an observer, it was the hard to understand who wasn't playing to plan. Overall, looked down on confidence, interest and effort.
Crowd was perhaps 1600-2100, it was good to see/ hear the south cheer squad who had wisely planted themselves on the hill from where their noise could travel farthest. There were a good number of South fans around my position in the playground pocket and they all seemed to be a good sort, just enjoying the footy and no stupid comments. The terraced and grandstand area sounded like it was Sturt dominated. Caught up with some good Sturt folk myself and sort of had an alright day once I resigned myself to the fact we were getting a really bad game out of the system and hopefully will hit back next week.

Derp, you got it the wrong way around. I'm glad she got a gig at South Adelaide, not North! ie thanking South for having her! They've been excellent to her and she looks good in blue and white. :)
