IIRC they did mention West earlier in the i/v and that 'Rubbers' would love him out there.

According to North's official website Johnston has committed to North if he isn't redrafted.

He certainly loves the club and it is hard to imagine him playing for someone else, but given North's recent efforts with other players who loved the club and attempted to return, who knows?

Jimmy Allan was in the same category. Except there was actually an announcement that he would play for North in 2014, IIRC.

It happens. Callinan won Premierships with Central and stayed at Adelaide to captain their SANFL team.
Eagleton skipped back from AFL and signed with Norwood. (I'm not sure many West fans remember that, LOL).

There was a lot of speculation and innuendo but never an actual announcement from the club that Jimmy would play for North. We North supporters were waiting for the announcement that he had signed but it never eventuated. Jimmy was saying that he would only play for North, but Tredrea of all people was saying from about this time last year that he wouldn't be at North. How he knew six weeks before anyone else is a mystery to me.

Lewis Johnston (North Adelaide) and Jared Petrenko (Eagles) are 'almost certain' to head back to their original SANFL club, should they not be given another chance with a new AFL club...

Patrenko will offer good depth to their Ressies, as reigning Premiers its a pretty tough side to crack
