No doubt this discussion may have happened previously, but after yesterday's three matches all attracting crowds of over 3 thousand, I thought I'd put this one out there.

What day/time do people prefer to see SANFL games played? What works for people and what doesn't? What do people think works for their own club? Will be interested to hear peoples' thoughts!

Any football on a Sat arvo immediately excludes a large proportion of potential supporters due to their own football commitments.

Just the day and times haven't been done I believe.

Personally prefer Saturday afternoons, but from a club point of view i think it's wise to provide some variation with the home match scheduling. i.e. in South's case maybe 5 Saturday arvos, 2 sundays, 2 saturday nights and 1 friday night.

As much as I don't like Sunday games and they don't fit into my work schedule I think stats will prove Sunday is the most popular timeslot for crowds at SANFL games.

If that's the case the SANFL need to press forward with having more Sunday games

Dogger mentioned a summer schedule many years ago. Run the league competition from November to March - all night games. 14 Rounds then finals so each club plays the other one home and away. No AFL Reserves or juniors.

Winter comp can be all the juniors plus U23's which includes AFL Reserves teams.

Aug 30-31 AFL have scheduled Crows Rd 22 v St Kilda game at Adelaide Oval on Sunday Aug 31.

so

this should mean SANFL Elimination & Qualifying finals will be DH at Adelaide Oval on the Saturday August 30

so

this means Round 18 games should be Friday Night / Saturday matches so teams have the full 7 day preparation.

expect official announcements within 24 hours.

How much publicity will we get when the crows are involved in the must win to play finals last game of the year

Yes if that scenario does play out, I can see the the first week of SANFL finals being a little drowned out. Not ideal at all! What reason was given for the moving forward of finals/grand final?

Fortunately, if things pan out the way they appear to be heading, a Norwood v Sturt qualifying final at least should draw a decent crowd.

Hopefully the Crows have secured a finals spot by then, making this a non issue! :)

Wait until the second week of our finals when Port finish fifth and the Crows are sixth and both get home finals at Adelaide oval. We'll be having suburban finals earlier than planned.......

Ah! I came across to this thread because I was just thinking of this exact scenario! It's probably not the most likely scenario, but still in the mix! This did actually play out back in 2003, where both AFL sides had home finals in the first week, but if I am remembering correctly the SANFL finals did not start until the week after. This is another problem with bringing the SANFL finals forward, because the issue of two AFL finals in Adelaide is always more likely to happen in week one of the finals than any other week.

The 2014 SANFL IGA League finals will begin with a double-header under lights at Adelaide Oval on Saturday August 30.

With Adelaide hosting St Kilda in its AFL clash at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, August 31, the SANFL finals campaign will kick off with the Qualifying Final at 4.40pm followed by the Elimination Final at 7.40pm.

This also marks a change in the order of SANFL finals, with the Elimination Final previously being played before the Qualifying Final since 2004.

‘’The SANFL has decided to change the finals schedule for a number of reasons – the first being to give the higher ranked teams more rest to prepare for the next match,’’ SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker said.

‘’Having the sudden-death finals played as the second match will also create plenty of tension and excitement as supporters wait anxiously to learn which team is eliminated from the finals race.

‘’The league is very excited about the prospect of starting this year’s finals campaign amid an electric atmosphere under lights at the new home of South Australian football.’’

Due to the 2014 finals series starting on Saturday August 30, all five matches in Round 18 of the SANFL IGA League season will be played on Saturday August 23.

This will provide all teams competing in finals with an equal number of days rest in preparation for the major round.

2014 IGA LEAGUE FINALS SERIES – WEEK 1

Saturday August 30 – Adelaide Oval
4.40pm- Qualifying Final (2nd v 3rd)
7.40pm - Elimination Final (4th v 5th)

ROUND 18 FIXTURE

Saturday August 23
North Adelaide v Central District (Prospect Oval) – 2.10pm
Eagles v West Adelaide (Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval) – 2.10pm
Norwood v Adelaide (Coopers Stadium) – 4.40pm
Glenelg v Port Adelaide (Gliderol Stadium) – 2.10pm

I like the idea of playing the Elimination Final 2nd but...
Did they have to be @ night?

Trying to get Ammos to turn up after their games?
