This should be an intriguing contest and one that both side will no doubt be setting themselves for. The Double Blues would be disappointed with the performance against the almost full-time side in Port Power Reserves, trading as Port Adelaide Magpies, while the Bloods comfortably accounted for the Crows reserves who were playing kids in a League game of football that were struggling to hold a reserves spot at their local SANFL club.
Looking forward to getting along to this one and catching an authentic game of SANFL, myself...
STURT v WEST
Envestra Park, Unley
Sunday, May 18th 2014
Reserves @ 11:25am
League @ 2:10pm
Broadcast - 1197 RPH Adelaide, from 2:00pm

Sturt by plenty, dog turds and all.
They have been really impressive this year and will continue their good form, apart from the expected blip last week.

Beware the Bloods this weekend. The first few weeks was just them getting used to Mickan. They'll be stronger now.

Start to get some players back and then we lose Bricknell last week and then Still with a hammy this week plus possibly Caire with a flu. Not quite at full strength yet but expecting us to compete well. The size and strength of Tuck, Schmidt, Macreadie was important in beating Sturt last year and we've still got that advantage this time around. They've got a bit more speed though with Tambling and Kirkwood.

Haven't seen Sturt play so far but I think the Bloods might be able to string a few together. Bloods by 10 goals.

Should be a good game. Glad that still isn't playing. Like to think Sturt to win by 25 points.

Crowd 3478.
Must admit I did not see a blow out coming. West Adelaide down to Earth with a thud.

Good Crowd
Can someone provide a stat of the Sunday crowd figures vs Saturday crowd figures
Sunday seems to be a popular timeslot
Mainly interested in the pure club games though

Bring back Collo!!!
Atleast when they kick 8 the opposition only got 5 or 6 goals not 20

Blew them away in the first half, more or less even after that and junk time for two 1/4's. Some great consistency from all our players but especially our young kids. I thought West did well in holding Coad and Duldig up fwd getting players back to double team them when the ball came in.

Problem was we double teamed both of them and had our whole side down the wrong end AGAIN. We conceded a ridiculous number of inside 50s in the first half because every time our 8 or 9 defenders cleared it out we had no one there and it just came straight back. We have solid rucks and excellent clearance midfielders in Tuck, Schmidt, Macreadie etc. and yet we set up in such an unsustainable way. Luckily Sturt got bored with the game and started just playing kick to kick with each other rather than trying to score in the second half.
If we were trying to win games them it would be a downer to lose Hartlett and Fielke with injuries on top of Middleton and Caire from the selected side, however if we keep using one of our best attacking weapons in Beech to sit on defensive 50 and have no impact on game then it does not matter.
SO FRUSTRATING to sit through watching that slop against a side who are no more talented than us but do take the game on and us be ten goals down at half time.

As a team at the moment -Yes.
Man for man on individual talent - No (in my view)
The issue I have is whether our coaching group are getting the best out of what we've got with the structure they choose to play. Hard to see Mickan's stamp on the group, as opposed to Collo's. Maybe there are not enough strong voices on the panel, maybe Mickan got seduced by Collins gameplan, maybe it's too many of our best side out, but we look nothing like the minor round success that Rubbers had with Glenelg. I recall they were organised, unique and attacking. I hoped that's what he'd bring to our club, however there is no sign of it yet.
