Port and the SANFL are in a lose/lose position with regards to the Power reserves being in the SANFL.

I genuinely feel sorry for true Magpie supporters but they are dead; have been for a while and the last rights will be officially administered if and when Port join the VFL/AFL reserves.

As some have previously quite rightly noted, when Port won the right to an AFL licence in 1996, their submission to the SANFL was to not have a side in the SANFL, but the SANFL insisted that the Magpies continue as a completely separate entity from the Power and be based at Ethelton.

So in reality, this action, if approved, was always going to eventuate.

The Crows are a completely separate matter, and in my opinion, should never have been allowed to participate as a club in the SANFL. Hopefully they will follow Port, and really have no choice but to.

I will note that for some of my 8 year absence from this site, I had a role in an SANFL club that basically precluded me from posting here, and during that time, there was only one club that had a League Director that was openly opposed to the AFL clubs participating in the SANFL.

My club had no issues with it, and that was clearly evident from the Board down to the football department, which to be honest, staggered me at the time.

If both AFL side do leave, then the SANFL has an opportunity to make some changes that will benefit the competition. It will be interesting what they do with the draw (everyone plays each other 2 or 3 times or somewhere in between), final 4 system, finals played at suburban grounds, and promote the game better at schools/clinics, etc.

Perversely, the State Government bailout that created the SMA to manage Adelaide Oval means that the success of the SA AFL teams there is a direct benefit to the SANFL (and SACA).

Interesting times ahead.

Try doubling that number.

Without the State Government bailout that was the redeveloped Adelaide Oval, it’s likely that the SANFL (and SACA) wouldn’t have survived.

They’ll need to break a legally binding contract leaving early. $400K a year. Going to cost them $1.6 million before they even start….

Its my understanding that, thanks to Joe Tripodi, there is a clause that the two AFL reserves teams can give 12 months notice to leave the SANFL.

I'm not really the most knowledgeable on the topic but surely once Port tick the box of getting out of the SANFL the next serious task will be to have the SMA and the SANFL removed from the AO contract.

SMA is half cricket and the lease is for 80 years so not something we will have to worry about.

you lot are a little strange...
For how many years you are pushing Port and Crows out of the SANFL
As soon as it looks like happening..."how will they afford it?" "SANFL have a binding contract for $400k per year" etc etc
 which one do you want?

Us lot, bit generalistic?
Personally I'd be happy to go pick up cans and give the AFL teams my proceeds if it gets them out any sooner.
I'll throw in some steak knives if it helps.
Don't give a **** about any monies owed or missed out on in the future, just get out.

Us?
What do Port and Crows owe SANFL?
When they both leave, you will see what happens to the SANFL and it's not because of a $400k annual fee the Crows pump in each year that goes missing

SANFL fans are a different breed. Can't wait to revisit these threads in 10 years time when the comp is on its knees & they all come back whining & blaming Port & the Crows. Never anyone elses fault.

50k a year per club. Whoopdeedo.
Monies made from extra crowds at home games not having to play the Power or Crows in front of family and friends who get in for free anyway will more than cover it.
I personally would contribute more than 1k extra to my club every year if/when it happens.
Not that my club would care too much about 50k as they could show up to a million dollar profit most years if they wanted to.

You are very narrow minded Wedgie... think outside your club mate.
It's already happening... the SANFL will be defunct 5 years after the AFL sides exit. Bookmark this.

Rather be narrow minded than clueless.
All the AFL clubs do is whinge, they don't bring anything positive to the SANFL.
It would be narrow minded to think the SANFL rely on them.

SANFL is dying with or without the AFL teams. When you take the blinkers off one day, you will see that.

Well if in your opinion it is dying with the AFL teams then you're telling us there's no reason they should be in the SANFL anyway.
Good to know we all agree they can **** off.

That is something we definitely agree on. Time to leave for both AFL teams.

That's a very broad question that I don't have the time or interest to answer mate.
