I know the season hasn't even started yet, but this is good news, I reckon...

"With just two days until Norwood and Port meet in the season opener at Coopers Stadium, it has also been confirmed that all four weeks of SANFL finals this year will be played at Adelaide Oval with suburban finals put on hold."

Didn't the sanfl confirm that finals were to be played at suburban grounds last year?

Yes, but the broadcaster wants to telecast double headers in the finals, which rules out most suburban grounds as they cannot cater for 4 league teams on the same day.

Wouldn't that depend on which teams were there ;)

Didn't see this mentioned on the fixtures thread and don't listen to Adelaide radio much, but something that seems to have been overlooked is that the City-Bay will be on the morning of the GF. Is this a good thing or bad thing?
Sunday Mail and Advertiser all seem to promote it strongly given their sponsorship Ch 10 and 5AA also, so that will obviously take some exposure away from the GF.
Might be hard for people needing to get there for the u/18's game.
Alternatively, can the SANFL somehow piggyback it's promotion onto it, being community orientated etc, perhaps free tickets for those who finish? Maybe reversing the run would be ideal, but can't see that happening as assume it would bring $$'s to Bay traders.

Last 2 years

Cant cope with 4 teams at one venue? How do they cope with 18's, Reserves and League on one day then????

Yep can't be a good thing competing with a (?????k) event which is growing each year.

Good idea to take advantage of the new Adelaide Oval and see if we can get some big crowds back for finals. What would be even better is each team getting the chance to play a game there prior to the finals series, a couple of double headers would do, you'd only need two.

the finals at Adelaide oval will draw good crowds, but for how long????

and when the double header crowds go back to 10k, what then?????

10,000 at Adelaide oval will be similar to the atmosphere at footy park

How does qualification work for the AFL listed players. How many games do they have to play at SANFL level to qualify for finals?

Even more reason our GF should be after the AFL now its at Adelaide Oval - It would also disadvantage Port and Crows having the GF when their seasons are finished and this is another positive and reason why we need to review this poor decision for 2014

Agree with this. Don't see why they can't schedule a few more games at Adelaide Oval during the year, even if it means having more rounds in the season and getting rid of the Foxtel Cup, or even allowing the Crows to use as their home ground for SANFL matches - just not as a curtain raiser to the AFL.

The time to experiment with suburban finals was the last few years. Glad that they are using Adelaide Oval for all the finals now it is available. Perhaps suburban finals need to be revisited in a few seasons if crowds are poor.
