Sadly, former Central and Norwood) player Stephen 'Mono' Connelly passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack...

He was just 50 years old...

Very sad to hear. He was one of my favourite players. Too young. Condolences to Stephens family and friends.

Bloody hell, another one.
Loved watching him as a kid. Must have got his autograph more than a handful of times.
Went to school with his niece.
RIP

Shocking news, although I didnt know him he appeared a very fit man still. Was still helping out at TTG footy club until this season.

What years did he play and how many games did he play? Honestly the name doesn't ring a bell at all with me but I'm sure that's just my crap memory at work again.

Early to late 80s. Probably played about 150 games.

Left-footer from memory.

I think he may have made the SA state of origin side one year.

RIP

Just on a discussion on his career - any info on why he switched clubs?

He started at Norwood, and went to Centrals, is that right? Or was it the other way around?

Started at Centrals. May have left the Dogs around the time Knuckles came in - I'm uncertain, though.
Drafted by Brisbane in the first draft.

IIRC had bushy blonde hair.

I reckon 1987 was his first season at Norwood from memory, and he started well before fading away. Had an excellent season in 1984 at the Dogs.

Connelly was a Brisbane Bears pre draft selection in 1986 (along with Matt Campbell, Ben Harris, Neil Hein, Colin McDonald & Mark Mickan).
He was a left footer who wore no 16 at Centrals and then wore no 7 at Norwood where he moved to in '87.

It so sad to hear this news. We use to work together at Adelaide Pest Control back in the mid-80''s. He was a very nice guy and my condolences to his family.

Very sad news my condolences to his family and friends

I remember him well ... I think it was the blonde hair that has made him stand out in my mind.
