Luke Crane retired ... Sturt FC posted on Facebook this morning.
"Luke won a Magarey Medal in 2008 (SANFL best and fairest) and was a dual PT Morton Medal winner (Sturt best and fairest) in 2007 and again in 2011. Hard running, courageous and seriously competitive Luke Crane also loved to celebrate a goal. Thanks for the memories Luke and Sturt wishes you the very best for life after football."
Craney is a ripping bloke, and Sturt FC is a better club for having him wear the double blue!

Big out for the Bloods with Brad Mangan returning to Victoria...

With Ferguson gone and the chance that Tippett could get drafted as a mature age, West would have to rebuild their whole defence...

Veteran South Australian National Football League field umpire Tony Dey, 35, has decided to pack away the uniform and put away the whistle.

Dey began his career in umpiring at the Port Adelaide White Zone, SASFA School Panel in 1991. As a young boy, Dey used to abuse the umpires on the side lines so his parents thought it would be a good idea for him to see the other side of the fence.

Dey made his league debut umpiring at Adelaide Oval in 1999; South Adelaide took on Central District.

Dey has gone on to umpire 273 SANFL League games with 3 League Grand Finals.

In 2009, Dey won the highest achievement for an SANFL League field umpire, the Golden Whistle. The Golden Whistle goes to the best SANFL field umpire who consistently performs in the key areas of umpiring throughout the season.

Umpiring is not always about the game of football, it is about the friends that you meet along the way.

“Mateship and the game of football is what kept me going, the guys that you meet along the way, a lot of guys will be lifelong friends,’’ Dey said.

The achievement of going up grades; a sign of improvement and the tough games are what kept Dey umpiring.

“Whenever you go up a grade, it was always fantastic, but the 2009 Grand Final will always stick with me as the highlight,’’ Dey said.

“The most memorable match would be Port against Norwood at Alberton Oval, it was a massive shoot out, conditions were fantastic for football, the final score was 21 goals to 23 and fights happening everywhere,” said Dey on what kept him umpiring and the most memorable match that will always stick with him.

Dey’s inspirations and those who have been there along the way have always been family and friends.

“Mum and dad, family have always been there and it was coming to watch me when I was younger,’’ Dey said.

‘’For my league career it was my wife, Michelle, we were married at a young age so she has always been there.’’

Retiring will be something different for Dey, not having to train daily and the idea of spending time with his young daughter, Mackenzie, 18 months is something to look forward too.

“Spend time with the family, go on a holiday with family and friends and I want to coach; either umpiring or football, I’m not sure,” Dey said when asked what was next on his agenda.

Wunke has left South Adelaide to join the Eagles

Wundke decides to turn his back on South
Michael Wundke has informed the club today that he will be leaving the club to join the Eagles. Michael has accepted a long-term deal with the Eagles that provides him with financial security that is not reliant on Michael playing and performing for his new club. The South Adelaide Football Club has left no stone unturned in it’s attempt to retain Michael as a player at the club. We have been trying to discuss 2014 and beyond with Michael since a couple of mid-season wins in a row against West and Sturt. At Michael’s request we waited until the end of the season and we put an offer to Michael for 2014 within a week of the end of the SANFL minor round following a meeting with him. I met personally with Michael post season, and again on his return from a post season holiday overseas. Very recently the Eagles significantly increased the term of their offer to Michael and we made a lengthy and detailed presentation to Michael and his agent on Friday 1st November on why we felt South Adelaide was the best place for Michael to continue his SANFL career. We believe our financial offer to Michael was commensurate with the rival’s offer but our offer to Michael was slightly more reliant on Michael playing games for our club. The South Adelaide Football Club recruited Michael from North Adelaide in 2011 and gave Michael the opportunity to perform well at SANFL league level. We are disappointed that Michael has turned his back on the opportunity to continue helping our club improve.
