****, what a bunch of peanuts post on here now.

Cant say I know a hell of a lot about the man (Stevens)

But I do remember during his last few seasons at Carlton he struggled through a serious neck injury. (which ultimately ended his career)
Carlton were struggling at the time, but Nick battled on, played gutsy footy and was an inspiration to all at Carlton.
Well .... if that is the character of the bloke, I am stoked to have him at Glenelg.

Anyway... what Ive heard, he has done his homework on GFC & the SANFL & was a stand out applicant.

Time will tell, but I hope he sticks it up a few arses & gets us back up the top again.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

 Waiting all this time now  and all the Gays can do is appoint their bloody mini league coach!
Massive upgrade on Massie though  , that's obvious.
Once again the Gays take the easy option; Last time it was A. Jarman who missed out and that was the right choice .... not!
Rehn could not get passed over for a Mini League Coach, This Is Sooooo Funny, confirming everything the rest of the comp has thought of GFC for decades now.
South Adelaide have really blitzed every club who needed a coach, best CV with enough seniority to cope with a bottom club.
Bottom clubs eat young men and most older ones for breakfast.
This makes releasesing Mickan probably Glenelg's darkest hour for decades.
Dedja must be enjoying a nice bowl of Lemons for breakfast

ha! more comedy from a Woodville supporter. or is it torrens?
despite h78's imbecilic assessment, I think stevens will prove to be a good appointment. only time will tell of course, but it's pretty easy to throw sh!t from the outside. and I wish fellow bays' supporters would stop throwing sh!t at ourselves!
stevens was a better than average player at afl level, and I liked him at carlton. he was the one who always looked gutted after losing - so he spent a bit of time looking that way, but he gave his all and a lot of younger players speak highly of his leadership and attitude.
again, time will tell, but i'd love to read some insightful posts, not just typical drivel from supporters of a club whose finals record in recent years isn't dissimilar to my club's past efforts.

Shrewd appointment.

Ca$h-strapped club gets a senior coach.

And a landscaper to look after the ground.

Two for the price of one.

Good luck to Nick , I am not a Bays supporter however he was a great player and it is good to see blokes like him getting involved in the SANFL . I reckon by the end of the weekend he will have plenty of support he can call on if needs any mentoring , from the group he is with at the moment.

One of the more interesting aspects of the appointment is that they have announced him as a full time coach despite saying they would look for a part time one. His few years of coaching wouldn't seem to be enough to demand that change.

I've just written this on snouts forum, but may be of interest to some non-snouts members as well

I've been doing a bit of research on our new Coach (too much time on my hands for a change)

I found only positives from people within the Gippsland football system.
Although he has come to us from an U18s system, he has experience as an Assistant Coach at Richmond, and has been working in the Elite Development programs of the AFL.
He is already a Level 3 Coach
Massie did not have this experience, nor this accreditation when he was appointed.

I am willing to overlook his previous association with the mob at Alberton at the moment, and wish him well.

I also came across this article, and a specific paragrah caught my attention:
 http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/i- ... 6498080909

"My time at Carlton early days was very tough because I didn't have any idea how bad Carlton was," said Stevens, who was claimed by the Blues at pick No.2 in the 2004 pre-season draft.
"The financial trouble they were in at the time was enormous for the footy club so I had four years of pain before we started to win some games.

When he was appointed Gippsland Coach there was also this written about his coaching experience up until that time (November 2011)
 http://www.abc.net.au/local/audio/2011/ ... 353886.htm
“Region manager with the Gippsland Power Peter Francis says that having played more than 200 AFL games Stevens brings recent experience at the top level to the Power which will excite the young players he will be coaching.
'We're really excited about getting him and I think the players, once they know, they'll be really excited too. He obviously brings an enormous amount of credibility.'
Since hanging up his boots Stevens has coached at a number of levels.
He was the midfield coach of the New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory under 16 and under 18 teams for three years before becoming the coach of the senior NSW/ACT team in 2010.
Last season he was one of the midfield coach's for the improving Richmond Football Club in the AFL.”

And just for a bit of fun, he put the boots on when he could, and played 5 games for local club Traralgon:
 http://www.latrobevalleyexpress.com.au/ ... r-stevens/
"Our under 18s footy club (at Power), although it is a footy club, it's not a traditional one because everyone comes in from all over town and we don't get to a do a great deal of functions and stuff together," he said.
"Nothing beats getting out there, having a bit of fun and playing footy. I really enjoy that sort of side because when I moved down here I only knew two people in the town, so it's been really good in that aspect.
"It's really helped me fit in and enjoy my time being down here."

Will be interesting to follow his progress.

Very happy they did not go with Rehn, when sacked from Port he was asked if he would consider returning to the SANFL and indicated that it was beneath him and wasn't interested, seems like he changed his mind when no one else wanted him at AFL level...
