Joint winners in the 2's Magarey with Nick Homburg from West Adelaide and Travis Schiller tied on 11 votes. Eagles Angus Poole and last years winner actually had the most votes but was suspended at League level this season.

Paul Ventura also from the Eagles gets the McCullam/Tomkins

Unfortunately both have become very meaningless awards with very few players playing full seasons in either grade.

The Reserves Magarey should be called "the unluckiest player not to play more League" award and the U18s Medallist the "unluckiest non-private school kid not to play more state or reserves football".

Going over the game by game votes you also see some very weird decisions about votegetters, presumably due to inexperienced umpires who don't know the players that well.

I am sure it is not meaningless to the players.
Garry McIntosh is a former JUNIOR medallist as I am sure plenty of others League players are.

I think what Ecky's trying to say is that since the competition has become a feeder league, the lower grade medals have lost a lot of their gloss.

Agree with this.
So 11 votes win you this coveted award, what a joke.
Id scrap the reserves medal but keep the u18's award

Homburg only played 4 or so games and polled in every one.

Caleb Daniel Finished top 10 despite only playing 3 games in the Reserves.

Yep, the better players play a lot less underage and reserves footy now than in McIntosh's day.

Pity we can't win the bloody League Magarey! Still congratulations to Homburg, Schiller and in particular Ventura.

Homburg only played 4 or so games and polled in every one. Research your facts.

Homburg played nine reserves games but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Do your research.

It seems to be that year in year out there is never a player who is a stand out for the whole season. One player bobs up and has a clear BOG, the next it's another. Following week it's another still. And if there was someone who has such a season, another also does eg. Cica/Colville. From 1991 onwards, only Central have more votes than we do, yet every other club has at least one Magarey Medalist.

so Caleb Daniel from South Adelaide..

played 4 U/18s games for 9 votes..

played 3 Reserves games for 8 votes...

played 10 League games for ?? votes...

and has just turned 17. thats a reasonable year I would think.

Hopefully it's broadcasted on YouTube again this year

Nope...

As far as I know, there will be NO live stream of the Magarey Medal presentation...

I'm pretty sure it is due to no money to pay for it, unfortunately...

Probably be regular updates throughout the night from Zac Milbank on Social Media...

Yep but they will probably only show votes from the games involving the reserves side because that is in the best interest of south australian football. ;)

In all seriousness though im not to fussed about not 'seeing' it, watching some old bloke read votes isnt the most entertaining part.

But would be nice if a radio station could pick up a broadcast with the live votes being read out and maybe player interviews in between rounds, or a round re cap chat between radio hosts, or radio highlights of the games that round. Surely that couldnt be 'that' expensive.

Or worse case scenario if we could have the votes posted live on the SANFL website as it happens.

No money to spare for Magarey medal broadcast but plenty of money to waste on incompetent fat cats on the commission.
