Local Radio for Local Footy

Just wondering what RPH and Lifefm will be doing next season.

Assuming you guys will be covering the SANFL and have been great supporters of the league since I've been around listening, will you cover AFL reserves games or stick to just genuine SANFL v SANFL games?

Hi John,

Short answer is we have no idea and won't for some time.

This will be one of the last dominos to fall.

Usually coverage agreements between community radio stations and the league are not finalised until January / February.

If there is a TV deal they will always get first pick, then it is up to radio to pick up the rest.

With five games a round (up from four) BUT less rounds, will stations do more games per round
to equal the same level of coverage overall or will more games go uncovered.

There is a lot to be worked through.

However consider this...

under the shortened season I believe the first week of SANFL finals (Elim & Qual) will be during AFL last minor round

and second week (SANFL 1st & 2nd semis) will be during first week AFL finals.

How can FIVEaa & ABC Radio provide SANFL finals coverage on these weeks when there is AFL footy being played on the Sunday afternoon?

Well if there are five games

Most weeks two games will involve AFL teams

Only one would be on TV

Reasonable chance the other would be on radio.
