MEDIA STATEMENT – CRAIG PARRY

The SANFL can confirm that Woodville-West Torrens player Craig Parry has been deregistered after accepting a two-match ban for striking North Adelaide’s Matt Campbell on Saturday.

Under the national deregistration policy adopted by the SANFL in 2012, Parry has now exceeded the accumulated 16-week suspension permitted during a player’s career.

Rule 3.2.2 states: Players shall be automatically deregistered and not allowed further registration with the same or another league if the player has accumulated a combined total of sixteen (16) weeks suspension (or greater) in a football career.

Further to the policy, the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club may appeal for an exemption.

Rule 3.3 states: A player/official shall not be eligible for re-registration unless the player or official gains an exemption to reregister from the relevant state body. Such exemption shall only be granted under exceptional circumstances.

In this instance, the matter would be heard by the SA Football Commission at a date to be determined.

It's no coincidence that this has happened since the Eagles voted yes.

I'm telling you now, all the stars will align for the good guys to win the flag this year.

He has only got himself to blame! Might make him think about his cowardly acts. Has he ever hit a player in the course of play? Seems it always way off the ball / behind play? Have any of his victims ever been 180cm tall?

Oh wow, it goes to the SA Football Commission to decide. I wonder if they've ever heard of Craig Parry? I can picture John Olsen shuffling through his golf bag trying to find his glove to get it signed.

I can't help but wonder whether Parry and the Eagles were aware of this before they accepted the Match Review Panels offer of a 2 game suspension? Seems unusual that you would accept it if it meant he would be deregistered. Wonder whether they accepted it based on thinking he would miss the remainder of the minor round and be available for finals?

Well given the Sanfl caved in with Norwood and their salary cap breach then the eagles have hope yet!

So does this rule apply in the afl as well? You would think Campbell brown would be close to 16, and Tippett has 11 from the start of the year.
