How does the Crows gaining reserves in the SANFL affect Port now ?
Will they stay as they are in 2014 ?
Will they have the same access as the Crows down the track ?
Will they push for retention of their zones and juniors ?
Will they be expelled from the SANFL and be in the same boat as the Crows ?

Will be very interesting to see what develops now.

Seems inevitable that the Maggies - in current form - won't be around for much longer.

If they do become the Power's reserves and have to give up everything, I'd hate to see them run around in the prison-bars.

That would be an insult to the greatest guernsey in world sport...

Quite a reasonable statement at this point in time.
Will be interesting to see if Port's younger players develop better with more experienced players around them as opposed to the Crows having predominately younger players.
Would love to see the Crows fall flat on their face and have Port's kids develop far better proving what Port and the Crows had was an ADVANTAGE !!!!

Channel 7 reported that some Magpies players have already been informed that they will be playing for the Power reserves next year...

What would be the issue, if the Maggies were the power reserves side and they had no reserves or 16's , but had and 18's team from a smaller portion of their current zone from which they can then bring in top up players from.

Keeps it local for Port,
doesn't affect other clubs who won't need to provide top up players.
Other clubs get a part of the remaining Magpies zone

Not league players I hope.
Thought they had the same conditions as the Crows which would mean the majority of this years Magpies league squad would be at differant clubs next year

i think that port should be allowed to keep their juniors and zones, that gives back to the community a whole lot better than the crows faaaarked up proposal

There has been mention of a plan B next year.
Cant see how that would keep the Magpies safe, id imagine it would be fairly costly to play in the VFL.
Would also think as the license holder the SANFL would try to scuttle the idea

It appears that it's too late for that. It would be ironic if port reserves ended up in vfl and crows in sanfl with no juniors or reserves, when a cleaner model was port reserves aligning with magpies and the crows standalone team going to vfl.

Some of the more militant fans on other forums are calling for the Magpies to breakaway from One Club and join the ammos!

If all Port's AFL players went straight to the Magpies it would be an unfair advantage. I can see why the SANFL clubs would not want this.

A compromise would be Port Magpies consisting of all of the Power Reserves, plus say 16 top up players from the Magpies' zone under a certain age (say 22).

If you don't get picked in that 16 or you are over the age of 22 and not on the Power's list, you either play Magpies Reserves or find another club.

A reasonable compromise?

Would have been a starting point, and if I understand it, probably not too bad.

Went to a Dinner in the Port last tuesday and there were some Magpie/Power officials as guest speakers.

Apparently for 2015 they have two backup options if they dont get their prefered option. One was become the powers reserves and potentialy align with a ammos club i.e Port Districts and have an independant academy

Plan B Was to play in the VFL

Thoughts

This is what Ports original proposal was. All players were either AFL listed or from the Magpies zone. No ex-AFL recruits and no inter-SANFL recruits.

Why not just break away from One Club and stay in the SANFL?
