The Panthers will be full of confidence after pulling off the upset win of the year, to date, over second played West Adelaide. There were many improving signs from South and they will be keen to maintain that same intensity this week...
Their opponent, the Double Blues, had the week off with the bye and will keen to atone for their poor game against North Adelaide in their last outing. The key for Sturt will be how many AFL players they have available at the selection table...

The fewer the better, going on last week's performance against the Roosters.
Give me Tambling and Brodie Martin and keep the rest...
Sturt by 15 points. Panthers to lose another half dozen players before the weekend!

Brodie Martin is apparently out for a couple of weeks with a bad ankle strain...

South will have a lot more confidence after Sundays good win over the Bloods, a good time to test their resolve against Sturt after only a 6 day break.
Sturt has been putting some pressure on their opponents and winning quarters of football which will make this an interesting match.
I am going for the Panthers naturally as they showed their best is good enough to take it right up to any team in the comp, and chalking up another win at home is a must.
South by 10 - 15 points.

Could South get off the bottom and send Glenelg there?
If South don't win, they would need to finish pretty close to Sturt and "hope" the Bays lose by about 20 goals.

It has to be said, that's a pretty lazy, general statement to make regarding factor(s) that will go towards determining the outcome of a game. Sure, the AFL in's and out's play a more significant role at Sturt due to the number of Adelaide players on the list but whether South retain McKay could also be considered pivotal too.
What about alluding to the rucks for example? Sturt will have a massive advantage in this department with Kurtze and Graham sure to be dominant, particularly as South look somewhat 'short' in that department with Dowdell gone, Brooksby injured etc.
If you are going to bang on about being 'media' all the time BP, give us something worthy of decent journalism......

I think someone has just nominated themselves to start next week's pre-game topics!

Good post. I agree that it was a lazy remark.

I see what both you Sturt fans are pointed out, but as a non-Double Blues fan stated, this is just a realistic assesment of where they are at...
So if Tambling, Martin, Hombsch, Graham, Riley, Kerridge, Jaensch, McIntyre etc wheren't Sturt listed, that wouldn't have been my first thought when thinking about what to write regarding Sturt...
Point taken for next time, though...

Will be keen to see how we respond after the highs and lows of last week. All between the ears for South this weekend I feel.

We will see if last weeks win was a start of something better??
Sturt with so many AFL listed players must find it disruptive, but regardless of the team sturt put on the field it will be a tough match.

Managed to beat Sturt earlier in the year by beating them at their own running game. Sturt are the #1 handball receive team in the league this year but we had 114 to 106 in our round 3 game.
If we can play with the same passion, endeavour and hunger as last week then we're every chance. A loss would really make the weekend's result seem redundant.
We had more tackles than West on the weekend too which was only the second time we've out-tackled our opposition this year. We're third last for tackles this season and we allow the opposition to tackle us more than any other side (50.5 pg - league average is 43.7). Been a problem for the last three seasons - we out-tackled our opposition in 9 of 20 games in 2012, and in only 8 in 22 games in 2011.

I understand just where you're coming from BP. Perhaps better wording could've been "a big factor for Sturt will be the AFL inclusions etc..." but to say it is the key is to make it the be all and end all and the idea I've been getting from recent match reports has been that non AFL listed players are having a bigger impact than they were. Can't comment from my vantage point but I think some are of the opinion we are not just a side whose only hope of winning rests with it's AFL list.
In the current SANFL political climate I guess it becomes more important.
Anyway, personally love your work, but the comment did make me think twice.

With the whole Crows reserves proposal around I've been tracking the AFL contingent closely. I predict South to play 3 AFL listed players this week and Sturt to also play 3 AFL listed players. Hardly a significant number for either team.

Both sides look to have been negatively impacted by the loss of Adelaide listed players. What do you think Big Phil?

by 85 WAS A GOOD YEAR
Good Luck to ex Flagstaff Hill player Sam Smith on his debut.
I'm hoping weather conditions allow Sam to display his talent to their full extent.
As well as wanting Sam to enjoy his 1st league game, I'm wanting Sturt to win to keep South well and truly on the bottom of ladder.
