As a member of the Glenelg Football Club I am deeply concerned where we are heading. It has been a downward spiral since the 2008 Grand Final. Almost all players who played in that game are now either gone by being moved on or leaving on their own accord.

Some of the performances in the last 3 years are way below par and take us back to the dark days of the late 90's, early 00's.

With what is happening with the AFL reserves situation makes me even more concerned for this great club I have followed almost since the day I was born in 1964.

I truly believe that the appointment of Kris Massie was not the right choice. Some members threatened to leave if Andrew Jarman was appointed coach but it would have been the best thing for the club. Having being involved with Andrew at SAAFL level his enthusiasim for the game and his knowledge and teaching of skills is what we need more than ever. To put it bluntly we are a shambles on the field. We don't seem to land recruits that can help us and we move players on to quickly and not replace them properly

We have a niche market with Sunday games that no other club can match due to our surroundings.

The day I took my twin girls to their first Glenelg game was a proud moment for me. They may have on been 18 months old but all they wanted to do was climb the fence and get out on the ground. Once out there I couldn't get them off.

I write this not as a sh#t stirrer but as a concerned member. I don't want my club to be considered an also ran but figures and stats don't lie other than the period between 1967 - 90 we have been a very ordinary club.

We have the infrastructure that other clubs could only wish for. When we are winning we are up and about just look at the crowd against Sturt several years ago.

Maybe the Board has to take responsibility for its actions via coaching appointments.

Wasn't Mark Mickan sacked because KPI's were not met?

I wonder how many of them are being met now?

I honestly thought that Massie was a great appointment.
I also thought with the extremely talented juniors coming through that it would take time...not this long though. Thought we would be challenging for the flag this year.
Not sure whats gone wrong. We do lack an experienced ruckman and a tough on-baller to help Ty out. That should be the recruiting direction this year.

I think you'll find this applies to most sides.

I couldn't believe it at the time when they got rid of Mickan and went for Massie, Mickan was the one bloke at the GFC since Graham Cornes who brought a bit of respect back to their club, we struggled to beat them under Mickan. Yes their finals results were ordinary but that only required a fine tuning.

I have concerns but look at the team we are putting out there at the moment, its basically an under 21 team, season ending injuries to Hender and Hooper and the AFL guys that were holding us up early in the year not there anymore.

Im reserving my judgement on Massie until the end of the year, he deserves that much, I hope the board do that also.

At least we are getting games into kids and developing them.

I could never work out why they got rid of mickan .

At the time I said to my Bay mates it would backfire but got told NO ... Massie is the man to win us finals .

Oh well ....might take longer than first thought .

How beneficial is it for these kids getting flogged each week and being demoralised? How many of them will stay at the club with the current negative environment?
Already 41 of the 55 junior premiership players from our dominant 2008-2010 U19/U18 era have left, and I presume only a handful will be around next year.
Juniors develop the best in a successful, stable environment with strong leaders and unfortunately we don't have that at the moment.

How do we know for sure it is a negative environment?

Hard to be a positive environment when the team gets flogged by over 10 goals every week and the supporters are disgruntled.

Sorry Mate but that is the type of comment that leads us to live in mediocrity "Nothing to see here" If we keep our heads in the sand then everything will be fine and the club will go nowhere.

7 are currently at AFL clubs and 3 are at South (I think still) leaving 31 in the "football wilderness".

and when they're not kids anymore they're offload to Sturt ...
