Huge win for us, and I think the players will take a lot more from the game than just the 2 points.
As much as 3 wins in a row before this was a step in the right direction, after our start to the season it was hard to get too carried away with things when they were all against sides sitting outside the 5, the Eagles on the other hand are genuine contenders this year, and this was a great challenge for us to see where we were really at after somewhat recovering from such a poor start to the year.
A shame we're into a bye now, but North at Prospect next up is another big test for us, and I think we'll certainly give them a lot more of a run for their money than we would've had we dropped the game today.

Well done Bulldogs.

After the bye, their next 4 games will include North, Norwood & West so will soon know if they are a late starting contender or not.

I don't know why I was under the impression that the eagles were a good wet weather side. From what I saw, I would disagree.

That was pitiful. On the drive up Ron Fuller was interviewed on radio and he was asked about South being closer the last two weeks and if that was a turn around leading to last night's win and he mentioned something along the lines of it being like a dog chasing a bus. They would go at the tempo of the game and not take initiative. He said it was a cowardly way to play. That is exactly what the Eagles were like today and what they have been like at Elizabeth for most of the last decade. Sometimes you can have an honourable loss, but today was not one of those days.

You would have to say the Eagles are full of front runners. There is no other conclusion that can be drawn from this first half of the season.

Godden was smashed in the coaches box by Laird. Trying to play a loose behind play with Raymond - it didn't work. Goodrem would match up on him leaving Luke Thompson free at our end and Symes at Centrals end. Goodrem kicked early goals with Raymond the man on the mark.

I have also not seen a more disorganised display when Central kicked out from us kicking a behind. All day Central created a loose man from the kick out and ran the ball out with ease.

That was a pathetic effort for Powell's 200th. Only Parry, Kane and Salter could hold their heads high.

Today we were shocking for all but the first half of the last quarter. I don't think I've ever seen a team concede so many uncontested marks that should have been contested, both up forward and down back. We conceded soft goals and let Central players waltz right past us. We were looking a little bit like a football side when we got within 3 goals late in the game but really Central were never going to lose that. It was always going to be a tough one to win but a team aspiring for a double chance can't play that badly. Once again our worst footy is as different to our best as is imaginable. As bad a team effort as you'll see.

A great unexpected win today. The first quarter was very good. The two eagles goals were gained by bad turnovers. A lapse in the last quarter, but happy with the form showed today. Before the game I thought Habel or Dutschke for s. Milne, happy to be proven wrong.
Well done to the reserves also.

Only saw the last three quarters on the box, but it seemed simply a case of one team genuinely turning up and wanting to play footy, and that obviously was Centrals. Their skills were also reasonable in the conditions and some of their younger blokes were pretty impressive, Colouqhon (sp?) for his desire and attitude as well as obvious ability, Glenn, Sam Milne. Obst seems to make a reasonable difference even if he isn't getting a huge number of possessions.
Last week papered up some cracks for us I reckon, as even in the first quarter to me it was only three or four who set the game up for us, Goldy, Jarrad, Powell, Sumner, rather than it being a total team effort, and today those blokes influenced was well nullified.
Really not sure about our gameplan in that sort of weather either, as evidenced in the second quarter when we created a handful of chances, but there was no one to support Ainger in the 50.

Well done to the Bulldogs today - we were completely outplayed. Simply, they worked harder on and off the ball, played smarter wet weather football and worked together as a team.

Also well done to the club for providing the free car parking. It was the first time I've used it as I normally park in a side street or the shopping centre and thought it was impressive to offer free secured parking directly across the road from the entrance.

Before today, I think the only wet weather football we have played this year has been the last half against Sturt in round 1, so I suspect that reputation comes primarily from this game (ignoring the facts about Sturt's last half fadeouts and the spray that Godden gave the players at half time after a horrible first half).

After being found out with a lack of speed against West, our game plan since then has revolved more around moving the ball fast with handballs. We still tried to continue with this plan to some extent but today wasn't the day for it.

Centrals had the kick-to-handball ratio correct - 206 kicks / 96 handballs, whereas the Eagles had 164 kicks / 110 handballs.

From what I saw on TV today it didn't look good at all. Our u18s won in the driving rain and should have won by more then the 3 points it was Eagles 5.14 to Cntral 6.5. Still we will take the u18s win.
