McDonald's SA U18 v NSW/ACT
At Blacktown International Sports Park, West Sydney from 11.30am Saturday

McDONALD’S SA UNDER-18
F: (14) Alex Spina, (32) Mitch Harvey, (24) Luke Reynolds
HF: (13) Riley Knight, (27) Matt Scharenberg, (3) Malcolm Karpany
C: (9) Dwayne Wilson, (20) Luke Dunstan, (16) James Aish
HB: (17) Sean Lemmens, (28) Darcy Hourigan, (29) Jake Pitt
B: (7) James Battersby, (31) Cameron Giles, (18) Josh Pitson

R: (40) Peter Steffe, (8) Campbell Combe, (21) Trent Dumont
INT: (5) Zac Bates, (15) Peter Bampton, (36) Jonathon Ross, (19) George Hewett, (1) Jake Johansen

Not sure how a lad who hasn't played a game all year can get selected in front of lads who have played league recently. I know Aish is good but...

Is Jake Johansen the tiny bloke running around in Port Magpies league side, if so i would have thought he would comfortably get a gig starting on the field (not that it means much in modern day football)

Also my tip is for Trent Dumont to be All Australian at the end of the tournament.

Pretty sure they'll keep the guns for the bigger fish.

Maybe?

Well done to Sean Lemmens, good Salisbury boy who trained with the Power over summer. Hopefully he goes alright.

Nup, all the Big Guns are playing in this game besides the 2 mentioned above.

Would be a while since South had 2 lads in the u/18s state team. Good luck to Darcy Hourigan, who has had a taste of league footy and Peter Steffe, a ruckman who is about 206cm and has a longer reach than a sick dog :o

It looks like a full strength and well balanced side to me. The 2 mentioned above are obviously good players, but I wouldn't have thought automatic selections for this team.

Aish hasn't played a game all year and gets a gig, what a f**king joke. I don't care who you are or how good you are, no one should have privileges like that. So much for earning your spot like every other bloke has.

In saying that, he'll probably kill it now lol.

Anyway, great to see Luke Reynolds and Jonathon Ross in there, hope they go well.

Id rather he wasnt in the squad so he could be playing for Norwood. Likewise Dumont. Personally club comes way before state duties

He should be lining up for Norwood if it's his first game back this season.

Unfortunately that is not the case unless it is finals time. Those involved with the finals series will play for the club and miss out on the draft camp.

Do last years state games not count toward qualification?

Totally agree about Aish he could hardly be match fit and what is his form like ? Smack in the face for the other sqad members.
Must be the first player selected to play state football without having played a game all year.
As previously stated here he will probably burn but it is more the principle he should had at least one game for his club.
Not a big fan of Phillips as coach.
Hope the kids do well, about time we won this comp.

Not IMO. New year, new team so you should be expected to put in the work at training and in the trial games to make the squad. Plenty of blokes put the work in only to getting dropped while Aish just walks in and getting a starting spot on the wing. Football, especially at state level is always about earning your spot no matter who you are.

And great post SDK, spot on there.

Yeah Aishy must have been a tough choice for selection.
Do we go with a seasoned league champion and proven Premiership player or just another unknown kid ?
What were they thinking !
;)
