Thanks to Mighty Tiger for the score updates. Sounds as though Sturt did have some chances and let them go at crucial times. We closed to within a couple of goals about halfway through the final quarter. Hell, if we'd just kept the foot on the pedal or taken a couple of those chanced I read about we'd be celebrating a win right now!
Still, the game went more or less the way I thought it would, except for our goalless first quarter and 7 goal second things went just about how I predicted. Bloody hurts though!!!
Come on Blues!! 4 quarters of your brilliant, punishing best footy please! It must hurt demonstrating the ability and not following through. It has to click soon!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

At three quarter time, Tom didn't say he'd done his acl. He inferred he was okay.
Happy with Glenn and milnes game today. Again a lapse during the game (in this case a whole quarter). Glad to escape with the win. Boyd was good. Seb needs to have more impact around the ground, but trying hard. Our best is good our worst woeful.

i hope and prey your right about Collier.

i thought Prior had a real crack today, Glenn got plenty of the ball and uses it as well as any in the SANFL. Sam Milne was good as well and adds much needed pace to the side.

Oh what a surprise when Hardy went into ruck we concedded our most goals.

Colqhourns disposal was ordinary, Thommo gave away another 2 25m penalties and has been our most undisciplined player this year.

Is it just me or is the Sturt coach totally defeatist and uninspiring ?
I have seen him 3 times interviewed on ABC at 3/4 time and he seems happy to be " in the contest " only to be totally flogged in the last quarter.
Surely Sturt have a fitness problem as even against the Mapies they ran out of puff.
Not seen Centrals at all this year and must admit it is kind of sad to see a bunch of kids and unknowns running around. Seemed to fall from grace far too quickly.

We've had trouble running out games for sure, the way I read the scores thread it looks as though we ran this one out better than some previous efforts. Hopefully improving there.
As for your other point. Okay, I haven't seen him on ABC, obviously, but your description of Seamus' interviews reminds me a little of when Carmen was coaching us, and we had no money and our league side was basically a reserves side stacked with kids. We'd be getting thumped by 80 odd points at 3/4 time, at the huddle Carmen would just be quietly encouraging them, letting them know what they were doing wrong, and praising what little was being done right. There was no anger or pushing them beyond what they were capable. Not sure if that applies to our current situation, but it is a little similar.

Yes I remember Phil doing that because as a MASSIVE PC fan I often listened to him address his players in that manner.
Sadly for the Sturt Football Club Seamus M is light years away from what PC bought to the Sturt FC.
The 2002 premiership belonged to Phil Carmen IMHO.

Well he definitely did more than anyone to mold the side in a stable environment. Reinvented Sturt when we were a basket case. He deserved a premiership for what he achieved. Very unfortunate in 1998 that he came up against a Magpies side full of so many returning AFL players. A consequence of the Power's early sides and the amount of Magpies that stayed on over the years with the prospect of joining them, rather than sign on to another AFL side.

Sturt looked fantastic for about 15 minutes in the 2nd quarter, if they can figure out how to play like that for most of the game, they will beat most sides.

It was an entertaining game to watch, and if the bottom sides are playing footy like that the competition is not in too bad a shape.

Young lads in Glenn and Milne are showing real promise. Colliers injury threw us in the second, and Sturt played some great footy to come back from the first quarter hiding.

Callinan came into it in the second half and was a real difference. On that form he will probably end up back with the Crows.

Others identified early on in the piece and well done to them, but its obvious to me that we need a second ruck as Hardy just looks out of touch when rucking. I hope we are managing him well off field.

After watching the replay im thinking it is something structral as there didnt seem to be much if any collision in the marking contest where he went down injured.

fingers crossed its nothing to serious.

Dont get too optimistic - we thought the same about Johnston last game and looked what eventually was diagnosed! Knee and leg injuries are unknowns to be honest until proper examination and scans. Wouldn't be relying on the likes of our Club Doctor at North who would struggle diagnosing a paper cut!
