Funny game

The first half was probably the worse we have played all year and despite more scoring shots we were lucky to be within 5 goals.

The second half was the best we have played all year.

Josh Glenn was brilliant, he always uses the ball exceptionally but he won enough of it to make it count.

JAY NASH!!! we had all been calling for him into the side and he was great on Johncock in the second half after Waldhutter did a job in the first half.

Great to get a win and hopefully with Sturt and South in our next two games hopefully we can push the top 5.

Hmm - great reading on the The Power From Port website under the Magpies Forum.

Where to now for the "great white hope" of the PAFC - seems like J. Butcher needs to be dropped to the Ressies? That will be ok given he is a Port player at the Magpies but not good enough for the likes of Newton, Young anc co. to be assessed on form and attitude by the host clubs in the SANFL that currently look after their development? Ressies won't hurt him in fact it will be good prep for the early starts in the SANFL Reserves comp when the Magpies turn into the Power Ressies!

Hooray! Good to get a win on the board finally.

Firstly the negatives.
First quarter was woeful. Port had more run, desperation etc. It would be interesting to see the first quarter stats.
A negative and positive is we had 43 hit outs to 32, but only three more clearances. The first quarter and a half Seb kept winning the taps only to see Port win the clearance. The positive is Seb is getting his hand to it and if we can get first use of it more often we'll be better for it.
Another negative, looks like Obsty, hardy and Josh W might have copped injuries.
The free kicks, we were on the wrong side of the ledger. We give away too many soft frees, like falling into an opponents back, we need to be "smarter". Thommo giving away 25 metres by mouthing off inside 50, could have been costly.

Positives
Second half. Came out a different team with more desperation and run (looked less lazy).
The tackling, 24 to 48, hopefully it's back. At a crucial stage Alfies goal saving tackle was awesome.
Sam Colquhoun's form and disposal, (Keith Thomas on the radio again advocating a Power reserves side. Sam playing against us would be a disgrace).
A number of players finding some form. A "trimmer" Jay Nash back in defence.
Local lad Josh Glenn's poise when kicking the two goals.
Beating Port at Alberton is always fantastic, especially when you can enjoy the last quarter.
Symes to return shortly.

Hopefully the rest next week will see them fit.

Thommo has been very undisciplined this year (including round 1 against West early on when the game was on the line) so i am personally surprised to see him the state team Captain.

Agree with all the accolades sent Josh Glenn's way. He has been a revelation this year and has the poise and class of a player with much more experience.
Looking forward to getting back into the top 5 where we belong.

So playing 2 ruckman worked?

They didn't play 2 ruckmen, in the end. Cam Milne dropped back to the Reserves, despite bing named to come into the League side. Looks like Guilhaus rucked the majority of the day with Justin Hardy backing up, playing out of full forward...

Yep but for some reason Guilhas seemed to ruck close to 90% of the game which left Hardy at full forward for the majority of the game.

No surprise to see it was Hardys best game this year.

Also Nash was brilliant today.

FFS who ever said McGregor was league coach material anyway.... talk about ridiculous, no way he is better then Bamford and shows why some clubs sink to decade and beyond lows!

On Seb he is a man mountain and a great pick up by kris grant and co.

Great to FINALLY have Jay Nash in the side.

Excellent tackling yesterday set the game up for centrals.

Ian callinans second half was excellent he didn't look fit in the first half.

Trent goodrem has taken his game to another level this year. Greg Phillips serving me beers behind the bar at alberton was Also a highlight.

Great work. Enjoyed listening to that one on the radio.
Good work Joshy Glenn! Great to hear him earning some accolades.

Guilhaus - no kicks, 4 handballs, 32 taps (according to Life FM).
Interesting stats.

And...congrats to Luke Slattery on 100 games with the Magpies.

Seb, by His own admission, is a crap kick.

I think it's great. Ruckmen should stick to their strengths.
