Round 6 Eagles v South Post Match

Postby Aerie » Sun May 05, 2013 7:01 pm

Eagles 23.19 (157)
South 6.7 (43)

Little more than a training run for the Eagles. 5 goals to Redden and 4 to Salter in his first league game this season.

It looks like it. One of the worst performances I've seen. Considering they are now bottom and so is the Reserves, and the U/18's are winless - the coach's grave yard that is South Adelaide has surely claimed another victim?

I really feel for the South "diehards". South have some talent on their list but to continually under perform so consistently for decades on end with no fix in sight is a massive worry? So glad it is not my club and they are well known under performer too!

Maybe Bunton could ring Mark Ross for some tips on how to run a successful football team?

I also feel for South supporters, very similar club to West IMO. Up for a bit and down for a lot. Anyone who support these clubs are diehards.

So many good players on their list but they seem disinterested. Who could take the job? They would need an experienced coach.

We won't kick you when your down - good luck. South have so much right off field including the fact they are up there as one of the 3 really financially strong clubs in the SANFL yet they constantly under perform and cannot increase their supporter base?

Yes its sad, what is the answer though?
They seem to have everything off field going well.
Decent ground with lighting, good facilities, good clubrooms and they apparantly make decent money from their pokies.
The question has to be asked what is going on with the playing side of things?
No matter how many times they are allocated more zones they are still struggling at a junior level.
Even disregarding the juniors they had a handy side a couple of years back but have gone backwards at an alarming rate. Their squad on paper today still looked ok and definately not a side to lose by over 100 points.
What the hell is going on down there?

I know I've been prone to some outlandish statements and most people know my hatred for the hybrids but I had a feeling they were going to belt us today.

Having said that, our lack of effort was outrageous.

I'm with you Southee.

South were terrible. Funny, but we had the same conversation about Fuller; "Will he last the season?" - based on their history of sacking coaches.
Hard to work out where Eagles are @ the minute - North @ Prospect in 2 weeks will be a stern test I think.
IMHO North are the best side in the competition @ the moment - will be interesting as Eagles don't have a good record @ Prospect.
I love going there, one of my favorite grounds.

Don't think we will hang on to Redden for long.
I am surprised Goldsmith hasn't been picked up - very similar type to Stokes IMHO, could be a good 'crumber'/ small forward in GAYFL.

Good % booster today, but that's all.

Outplayed. Outcoached. Terrible skills/decision making. No ticker. A season that started with relatively high expectations is shot by early May.

Bugger all South supporters there today. Can't blame people for spending their afternoon doing something else. Certainly feels as though there is very little light at the end of the tunnel right now given the lack of depth in other grades, and the fact that the league side only has 3 or 4 regular 'local' players.

The only positive was Ainger having little impact on the game  *clutches at straws* Well done to the Eagles. Redden had a "field" day, bad pun kinda intended.

The performance today certainly had that "stench" about it. Ditto for the shameful last quarter fiasco against the Bloods.

What the hell happened to South 2011 they were in the finals !!
What a shocking game from a south POV
Eagles actually looked fast today that's how bad South were .
South forwards couldn't hold marks even alone !! Not to mention knocking each over !!
parry didn't need to win the ruck eagles just took the ball away
Some one posted they make $100'000 a year profit perhaps they need to spend some on field and keep players

Looking at the positives from an Eagles perspective - it was important to get the percentage up to match the top sides after taking a thumping from West in Round 2. It's also good to see the consistency of effort since the bye. This effort is the foundation of any good side and despite losing some quality players over the off-season, there is still enough quality in the side to capitalise if the effort is there. A week off for the state game and then the first real test against North at Prospect.
