Wow what a difference when you fill a team with quick, ball carrying midfielders who are prepared to play on rather than chip and stop. This was a completely different style of team play tonight then what we've been used to for quite some time.

Sumner, Vince, Raymond, Giuffreda all absolutely terrific but why stop there? The whole team played well. I think not having the second tall key forward (Grocke) did hurt us to some extent but our midfielders stood up and kicked goals where counted.

That kid #2 Karpany?? didn't get much of the ball but looks like he is going to be star the way he moves and kicks. I hope Godden persists with him.

Agreed, we were completely outplayed. Not a good night.

Terrible game by the Legs, Eagles by far the better side.
Deserved to lose by a lot more.
Hope this is a massive wake up call, havnt been that impressed with our start this year and saw some bad signs last week, need to lift a couple of notches

Was in the u18s premiership last year.

Great effort by the Eagles - The return of Byron Sumner just as important as any of the AFL ins - disgusting effort by the umpires who were able to keep the scores a lot closer than they should have been

That was not the team that faced West!!
Sumner coming back in from injury was missed against west. Sitting on the fence how did Basset show him no respect in the first half !! Let him run free the first half .
I was worried no Grocke no Eagles forward line . I was wrong Ainger different from Grocke but effective .
And what about goal kicking . Redden in front of me . I was yelling kick the checkside goal from the boundary and he did . Goldsworthy that had to be the goal of the round or year . On the ground on his back and to kick the ball up and for a goal !!Karpany any more like him in the under 18's

Luke Thompson would have to get an opportunity at the higher level after last nights performance he was unpassable. Salter will fit nicely back there next week tho

Good to get an "unlikely" win that might be important in the scramble for 5th position, but obviously we had a team we'll unlikely to have too many times again. No doubt we were lucky to get so many quality players in at once, and of those left out only Poole and Fitzergald I reckon have the potential to be more than bit players in our league side.
How did Mitchell play? The attitude would have been more important than actual possessions, but you'd hope that wouldn't be an issue being a mature age player from a similar set up.

He was in and out of the game.

Solid performance without having a huge influence on the game but his attitude, chasing, second efforts and attempts to get free of his opponent to create opportunities was impressive.

It looks like the Power have picked up a good one, but I'll be happy to have him as part of the Eagles for as long as we can.

FYI - The Advertiser does cop some criticism from time-to-time, but there's a good article about him in today's paper.

From the minute the Eagles ran onto the field you could see a determination about them to really dig in last night, which is exactly what happened and they grew in confidence as the night wore on, and they basically flogged us.

Not the end of the world for us as I have no doubt the players that were down last night are far more capable than they showed, but we'll obviously need to be vigilant about ensuring the lack of effort/intensity doesn't become a regular occurrence.

Reckon by the end of the year JK, this will be one of those forgotten losses for you, but is probably a good measuring stick for you because the Eagles side last night on paper is a premiership side IMO. Unfortunately it highlights the lack of real quality depth at Oval Ave at the moment compared to West and Norwood.

Naturally I hope you're right mate and there's a chance your may be the case, but we need to guard against any complacency and can't keep dining out on last years achievement.

I thought Bassett was massively out coached last night too btw.

Not panic stations by any means, but if any of our boys thought we'd waltz through the season they are sadly mistaken.

On the several occasions that Vince has played for the Eagles (either being dropped from the Crows or returning from injury via Eagles) he has never failed to produce a top 3 best on ground - a liitle slow in AFL but quick for SANFL.

Sumner - amazing that this player wasn't picked up by the local Crows or Power - has always had the baggage of his history of home-sickness and poor application when on Sydney's list after his first year and it appears that Clubs are reluctant to give him another chance. Is absolute class with his speed, clean takes, elusiveness, skills, courage.

So, what now for the Eagles. Will lose Brodie Smith next week, will probably have Vince for another 1-2 weeks as Sanderson will want to make Vince hungry and bleed for another chance....... but whatever, even if the AFL players were largely responsible for the good result, it's got to have some "left-over" effect on the remaining players.
