New season, same old sloppy SANFL journalism

Looking in the Mail today, I notice that the Eagles v Sturt game was the full-colour Tigers versus the greyscale Tigers. Microscopic writeup too, the commercials for the Advanced Medical Institute's Nasal Spray (tm) take up more space.

Had a casual flip through the budget on Friday. On the match facts page, it was claimed that South had won the last 5 starts against Glenelg... despite the scores from those five matches being enumerated below, ang Glenelg clearly being the victor in one of them.

Looking at the fixtures on the inside back page I see that South and Glenelg are drawn to play at Unley later in the year... and Unley is set to host its first ever night match between Port and Sturt next Friday night...

No, he just wants an excuse to reach into the back pockets of other fans...

Not too often as a West Adelaide supporter that I look up the leading goal kickers in the 'Tiser (as we all know, not usually much point!).

However, why aren't the Westies goal kickers mentioned? Jono Beech would be equal top with 10 and Daniel Webb 3rd with 8 goals. Even the bloody journalists don't bother to check the Bloods goal kickers....

It'll take a while for them to get used to West having forwards again mate.

They're not the only ones.... It's taking us supporters a while for us to get use to having forwards again!

You're not alone, we went through similar after we gave Healy the arse. ;)
I'm looking forward to seeing the new West on Friday night.

I know I vented my spleen Saturday night about when did Central last lose their first three games for the year, but did anyone notice that both Daniel Norton on 5AA's SANFL show and Kym Morgan in the Advertiser both repeated the error.

They don't even have the excuse of not having time to check, they had 24 hours to check rather than just blurt out something that is incorrect. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

This is probably my fault as well, on both fronts...

I was commentating with Kym Morgan on Saturday night (when I initiailly got supplied the incorrect information by Rob Laidlaw) so based on me saying on air it was 1987, Kym ran that in his story. The issue for Kym was that he had to write his story at Elizabeth immediately after the game finished to meet his Sunday Mail print deadline. After Robert advised me around 10:30pm that it was in fact 1990, it was too late to change as it had already gone to print.

Daniel Norton would have just read that 'stat' from Kym's article in the Sunday Mail. In fairness to Rob Laidlaw, he did initially reply back to my SMS with 1990 as the (correct) answer, but then replied straight back with '87, which I obviously ran with. When Rob got back to me again, it was too late. It is ALL my fault and, like I mentioned on all the threads were I published this incorrect stat, I apologise for the frustration caused.

Again, will learn from my mistakes and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I, in no way mean to have a go at Big Phil. He does a great job, and I'm not taking the p*ss. And as for Robert Laidlaw that would be the first mistake he had made in a long, long time. I will certainly be giving him a strong talking to when next I see him. ;)

No worries, robranisgod. I didn't take it as you having a go at me, I understand that you were just venting your frustration...

I guess a little embarrassingly ironic that when I first started on this forum I had a thread running for a while about exactly what I've done.

I hate it when the media get it wrong and will be sure to avoid it happening again...

Don't be too harsh on Rob mate, it wasn't really a mistake, just a breakdown in communication. He's a good guy, afterall ;)

I was serious BP, I'm a big fan of the huge amount of effort and time you put into bringing information to us SANFL fans.
You're a huge part of this site and we couldn't do without you.
