Propably preaching to the converted here, but a good article from Zac Milbank about the importance of club membership:

How does this work?
Magpie membership provides you with priority over the public when it comes to selecting seats at Adelaide Oval in 2014.

Wonder if Bunton's seen South's membership figures? No wonder he's obsessed with Norwood.

Maybe people could get together with a mate who supports another club and offer to be a member of their club, if they join yours? That might help get a few extra numbers at each club..

Phil what are the eagles doing that others aren't to have 1000 more then even Norwood?
I know you guys do free memberships for kids? How many memberships do they equate for?

No, I'm not. What is wrong with wanting the SANFL to stay alive?

Nothing at all, never said that. However the financial woes of some clubs I feel reflects a number of your average footy followers. A lot of people do struggle to afford a club membership and whilst this has always been the case to a degree, it has never been more evident than now with so many people struggling financially. To a point, a lot of people would consider a club membership a luxury.
I am all for exploring new ways to keep our comp viable, I just reckon your suggestion was a tad unrealistic.

don't panic over the membership numbers shown above. If you have a footy club which is set up as a real community club, you will still make good money from loyal patrons who regularly attend the club to play bingo, the pokies, have meals, wedding receptons etc., etc. I was at Centrals on Thursday from midday to about half 2 & the place was alive! People everywhere & in the middle of the day!

I say it every year, dangerous comparing clubs when some clubs include free memberships they giveaway to kids and life members where some only including paid memberships.
Much safer just comparing your clubs tally to other years of your clubs tally if you want to see how they're going. Mind you when new people come along and start giving away memberships and want them counted then that's dangerous too.

The Eagles total of 3000 for this year, is one of our best years, about 10 years ago it was about 900 total.

Nothing abnormal about that - Centrelink pay day on Thursdays

For information of the Eagles membership structure, can I refer anyone really interested to CD's Membership Report and CD2's CEO Summary in our annual report which you can access off the below link on the club's web site.
