AFL Fixture impact on SANFL

The AFL Fixture was released today

SANFL clubs should have now put in schedule requests so Foxtel Cup draw pending the SANFL can now start putting together its draw to come out in December.

Some initial notes .. mainly from a Crows perspective as Power schedule tends to have a Magpies specific impact.

Crows start Fri March 22nd, a week before normal AFL start.

Crows have bye on March 29-31 (Easter Weekend, possible SANFL Rd 1)

My main concern is the number of Crows Saturday Afternoon / Twighlight games
- Of the 21 scheduled 9 are in this timeslot (4 home, 5 away)
Of the other 12, 2 on Friday Night, 1 Saturday Night, 9 on Sunday

This means there will be at least 4 SANFL games going head to head with a Crows home match for ABC TV.

The Mid season Break is interesting
- Rd 11 - Power have bye, Crows at home on a Saturday Afternoon
- Rd 12 - both sides away (no games at AAMI, Crows at Rich Sat Aft)
- Rd 13 - Crows have bye, Power at home on a Saturday Afternoon

State Game
- Sat May 18 avoids going head to head with Crows or Power who both play on Sunday
- Sat May 25 goes head to head with Power v Geelong @ AAMI (Crows away on Sunday)

Friday Nights
- Crows play just 2, Round 1 v Essendon March 22 @ AAMI and Rd 16 in July @ Collingwood
- Power play no Friday Night games

This should lead to the opportunity of having a weekly Friday Night SANFL game for the first few months of the season.

Crows also only have 1 Saturday Night game in late July, so more SANFL football could also be played in this timeslot.

Used to be not long after the AFL, maybe mid-late November, but the last couple of years it's been released in late December. Probably not soon.

glenelg can play head to head with crows home games, the crowd wont be affected that much.
