30,000 GF Crowd

Terrific to see such a good crowd in light of the negative publicity that was doing the rounds plus the poor esteem that AAMI stadium is held in (not sure why? Is a good venue).
How many more people go to an Adelaide Oval GF if it was ready this year and it was back on the long weekend? Would it get to 40k?
The game itself sucked.

I think there was at least 5K worth of tickets given out, if not more...
Was surprised to see that figure, it was a good crowd. I think the SANFL saw a pass mark as 25K so they would have been happy...

Will be back on the long weekend for the next four years with the way the "last Saturday in September" falls.

Know what you're saying Dutchy, especailly with school going back today too.
Have been trying to gauge it over the years, and not sure whether the long weekend has a huge affect on the GF, but it certainly seems to on the prelim final attendance. Perhaps another reason to have a Friday night prelim?

Why didn't they play it on the Saturday? Would have made a lot of sense this year.

Didnt Leigh Wicker mention the season will possibly start 2 weeks earlier so the GF will be the week befor the AFL GF.

Seemed like 30,000 plus in my estimate. Definately more than Port Power v Carlton when I took my Carlton supporting wife there this year.
Seemed more than Norwood v Central 2010 .... what was that attendance ?
The ridiculous $30 addmitance would keep many neutral supporters away for sure but not true Norwood and West supporters. thanks again Darren.

Does any one think if this is the case it will have a negative effect on the crowd we'd get to a SANFL Grand Final?
Really good crowd on Sunday, against the flow of what the rest of the season crowds were like and the somewhat negative publicity towards the Grand Final before hand.
PS. Wouldn't need to start the season 2 weeks earlier if they didn't have so many byes! Go back to three weekends off per club instead of the 5 we had this year!

Absolutely it would. The number of amatuer and country GF's, presentation nights, celebrations, etc that are on the weekend before the AFL GF would have a reasonable impact. In today's environment not too many are going to put their SANFL club before their local club, no matter how much we wish it. Having it when we do gives these people a chance to go along, so it's a win-win for footy all round, but perhaps not for how the AFL want it to be.

Easily 5000 or more tickets sent out by SANFL, our club got 20 and I as Auskick Co-Ordinator got another 20

Leave it as is then I reckon. If they want the season shorter, just start later.

They have it as good as it's going to be now, but like almost everything, people just can't leave well alone.
Crows ressies team... why?
Oh we can be better with one!

Trying to remember if the SANFL put the tarps up on GF day in 2010?
If not, that may explain why it seemed like more crowd than Sunday, SDK...

Wouldn't have a problem with a week or two later.
Start pre-season early Dec rather than mid-November. Those at uni can finish their exams without having to change their schedules to fit in pre-season at an important time, gives older players more of a break, gives others more time to travel.

Yes they had the Tarps in 2010 Phil.
BUT in 2010 the Northern Grandstand was open so it was thinned out.

There are free "promotional" tickets given out each year.
Personally I have no issue with auskickers and junior clubs getting some tickets to the GF so these kids and families who already PAY to be auskickers or junior footballers, get a chance to experience the SANFL's premier event. We have got to give these kids an SANFL experience given they have direct links to a local club and media saturation of the AFL.
During the season each SANFL club receives a set amount of free promotional tickers
Usually no club receives more than any other, however how these are utulised is up to each club.
