2012 Elimination Final - North v Eagles Post Game Discussion

Postby Wedgie » Sun Sep 16, 2012 5:18 pm

Eagles 12.15 87
North 15 5 95

North clearly the better team all day, a great result considering they were the $3.30 underdogs, guts, determination and spirit!

Well done North. Massive respect for the way the played the whole day. Very similar style to the eagles but were cleaner up forward and their outside players gave far better disposal.

As for the eagles, I thought we played pretty well (one of the reasons I don't feel so deflated) but were beaten by a better side. The scene was set early in the game in the way we could not take the most of our opportunities whereas North made every shot on goal count.

Better players for the Eagles I thought in no particular order - Day, Sumner, Goldsworthy, Powell, Hall, Knights, Shirley, Jarrad

Honorable mentions to Culley (proved me wrong after my criticism of him early in the week), Fitzgerald and Staple (for his first half)

Disappointing games from Parry and Rowntree

Thanks for the memories Cicca - he's been a true champion of the club and while his form has visibly dropped, his endeavour was as high as ever throughout this game continuosuly throwing himself in hard at the footy. Looks to be Shirley and Greigers last games as well. If so, then thanks for your efforts and you will be missed.

At the end of the day, we have no one to blame for the loss by ourselves. I truly believe had we scraped through today that we had the potential to beat any of the sides above us but not to be. Realistically however, we needed to finish in the top 3 and have that double chance but the garbage footy we played for half a season prevented that from occurring.

Bad kicking cost us today, had we kicked straight, things might be different. Not the way that Cica would have finish his SANFL career.

Just watching the replay - terrible umpiring in the first qrt re the Alleway set shot that was deemed touched. Missed Gieigers hand by two feet and was a clear goal and what happens, the Eagles go down and score immediately - 12 point turn around!

Eagles had plenty of opportunities but couldn't put the scoreboard pressure on to reward their efforts. North's quality of ball use, particularly Bennett and Johnson, was superior to anything the Eagles could offer. I thought North also managed to have a few more numbers at the contest throughout the majority of the match which allowed them to get that extra handball and man free. It certainly seemed like North were doing everything a little easier than the Eagles. Can't fault the Eagles application though and it has been a terrific effort to get into the finals. Of course disappointing not to progress any further, but realistically the Eagles have some work to do to get back to the top of the tree.

Well done Cica on a fantastic career. The heart and soul of the club for a long time and it has been a pleasure to watch the majority of his 260+ games.

A disappointing season overall, but a good finish to give some optimism for next season.

With 10 mins toi go I thought Eagles were certainties but bad kicking and a lot of guts by North saw them home.
Good effort Roosters and good luck next week. You look a bit quicker than Centrals but no doubt the Dogs will bite back.
That big tall North ruckman number 18 looks the goods to me. Is he on an AFL list ?

2012 Elimination Finals - North D Eagles Post Game

Postby Jase » Sun Sep 16, 2012 8:41 pm

Unlucky Eags, watched the 2nd half today and thought the Roosters dodged a bullet. Had at least 3 very getable (?) shots at goal in the last.

On the retirement of Ben G, I have the privilege of working at the same school as Ben and he is an absolute legend of a bloke.
