Terrible idea. You only have to spend a couple of minutes amongst any supporter group to realise most of the crowd have no idea when it comes to umpiring.

I think the minor round Premier should get to choose the umpires this year as a one off special!
The footy public choose? No, for the reason above.

Alternatively, 1 umpire can sit in the members stand, 1 sit behind the northern goals and 1 sit on the eastern side with the sun in his eyes all afternoon. Obviously these are the best postions to make umpiring decisions.
