West Adelaide v South Adelaide - POST MATCH DISCUSSION

Postby scott » Fri Aug 24, 2012 11:06 pm

Final Score

West 8.13 (61)
South 9.6 (60)

Goals:
West - Br.Fisher 3, Laird, Fielke, Silverlock, Beech, Macreadie
South - Ainger 4, Carey 2, McKernan, Pfeiffer, Wundke

With an inside 50 count in your favour 57-29, you would have hoped for a bigger win! But a win's a win at the end of the day.

Not good but listening on the radio West would have been unlucky not to get the points.
West seemed to dominate South in most areas but just couldnt put you away

The battle for 2nd spot is still alive which means Centrals might have to wear their white away shorts instead of their preferred white home shorts in the first week of the finals!

mmm... perhaps the word...robbed ...is another word to describe it.

West played some good footy in the first half but clearly failed to capitalise on the scoreboard, the game should have been over at halftime. However South hung in there and got out to a 10 pt lead with 7 minutes to go. Unfortunately for South the decision paid against Nick Liddle for a push in the back that resulted in a goal to West was almost laughable , most westies supporters near me thought it was....
but there you go..........s---t happens.,and it usually lands on people dressed in blue and white.

Would have to be close to the ugliest game of football Ive ever seen, with 18 west players playing in our attacking 50 when we were in attack...skills particulrly from South were appalling, thankfully by my estimation there were only about 900 people there to endure it. :?

True but then neither would have anyone that was there given the inadequate quality of the Richmond Oval lights!

Just got home and I have never been so cold at the footy. It was freezing. The wind was so cold even though the 5 RPH commentators reckon there was no wind.

Westies absolutely dominated the game in all areas but just couldn't kick goals. Just kept thinking we were going to blow them away at some stage but it just didn't happen. We kicked the ball well around the ground but as soon as it went into the forward line, it would go wide, overhead or a finger breaking mongrel punt. Then if we did actually get a shot at goal, the goal kicking was terrible. Best players for me were Ryan Fergusson and Ky Miller IMO

Thought the umpiring was excellent for the first half then they were obviously replaced at half time because they were a disgrace in the second half. Goal umpire who gave South a goal when clearly touched needs glasses. It was clearly pushed away from the South player and over the line. Hartlett needs to control his emotions better, that's the second time this year he has conceeded a second goal without the ball going back into the centre.

Bad luck to the Panthers but the better team won on the night......just :D

I found the lighting quite poor at Richmond on previous visits, not sure of the dimensions but Richmond seems like a huge oval and I think either the lights are not positioned correctly or more powerful lights are required. Is quite an effort to see the other end. Im sure with some tinkering they will get it sorted

Blueandwhite, that was right in front of me, Ben MacCrediee free, and it was definitely a free kick.. no doubt at all. Not sure if the is a rule in the SANFL that if your Peter Nelson's height it is ok to be constantly held but the arm or shorts in a marking contest. Almost everytime he went for the ball he was scragged

If your talking the Ryan Willets free, McKernan got him high after he kicked the ball. Was a free but nothing else in it

COSTLY win - Would have preferred to lose the game and have scmidt uninjured
Shoulder injury didnt look great - HOPE scans produce some hope for Chris. We missed him big time in the 2nd half.

Another game escapes us toward the end.

We just have to be able to grab a game and hang onto it rather than fold in the last few moments.
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

Blueandwhite summed up the night well. We had a good run with the umps for most of the night, but the decision on Liddle late in the game was utter crap. Reward the bloke that falls over... We had plenty of chances in the last 10 minutes to pinch a goal but our skills and decision making predictably let us down.

Ugly game (too much night footy scheduled IMO, very rarely are they a good spectacle).

4th loss by a goal or less in last 7 games...gets tiring.

May be a differant incident, cant remember a free given. Was only a few minutes to go until end of game, commentators said it was a fair way off the ball

Miller was felled in front of the South bench. Maybe 5 minutes to go. CK said he saw 'something' but decided not to comment further...

Think he is talking about Ben Fisher giving a little left arm jab to Ky Miller's stomach right in front of the grandstand with only a few minutes to go. Hopefully none of the cameras capture it because he may be in a bit of trouble if they did.

Terrible game and have never been so disappointed after a win in my life I reckon. Umpiring was quite good in the first half but as Brodlach said that changed in the second half. They paid so many tiggy-touchwood free kicks it was pathetic. Don't think the Macreadie free was there but they paid so many of those in the 2nd half that they had to pay it.

Ferguson was Best on Ground and it was hard to find another West Adelaide player who performed for 4 quarters. Maybe Birss. Ky Miller really impresses me and looks to be a player of the future. Liddle, Cross and Stribling were good as usual, but South will probably need to recruit some more midfielders to help these guys out.

Hope Schmidt's shoulder is ok. Very important to our team and our chances to progress in the finals. Was in civvies in the 3rd quarter, but there was no sling on his arm so that is encouraging.
