CENTRAL Districts will trial the use of a big screen at its oval this Saturday, in a SANFL first aimed at attracting more supporters to its games.
The Bulldogs will erect the big screen showing the ABC televised coverage of the August 11 match against West Adelaide.Centrals marketing manager Kym Jarman said it would "enhance the match day experience'' for game attendees."We are trying to do something that is a little bit different from the other clubs to try to attract more supporters and opposition supporters to our home games,'' Mr Jarman said.
"People at the ground will be able to watch the game closer, showing replays of certain play and footage of the ABC's half time wrap.''He hoped the screen would become "a permanent fixture''.It also could be used for community events at the ground such as movie nights in the summer and the showing of major sporting events, including the AFL Grand Final and World Cup.

Sturt used one of those smaller trailer screens a couple of seasons ago at Unley - not sure how big this one is going to be?

A first for the SANFL. Great research done before making that statement.
Can't stand Sturt but they tried this concept a couple times 2 or 3 seasons ago. Wasn't a bad idea.
I do question if more people will attend games just because the Oval has a big screen. I guess if you don't try you don't know.

Maybe they could show the crows game on it. Don't think the action on the field will be worth watching too much.

When did Centrals stumble across this extra $$$. IIRC they could afford to replace their light globes last season

Will the players will be able to plug their 'bonus' DVD players into this screen?

Nice one topsy, but we are not the only ones caught out for being 'naughty', were we?

Perhaps the club is using some funds for the TV screen raised from a new membership category introduced at the start of the year?

200 Club - $200
Ever wanted to contribute to the Club but can’t afford to be a Corporate Partner? A new Club category in 2012 sees a 200 Club become a recognised group within the Central District Football Club. Not a “Membership Category” as such the 200 Club allows you to contribute an annual $200 donation to the Club in its quest to upgrade facilities. It may be a new BBQ area, a new playground, shelter or a new viewing facility. By making a $200 donation in 2012 you will make a recognised contribution to the betterment of the Club and receive:
- Inclusion as a Member of the ‘200 Club’ in 2012
- Recognition as a 200 Club Member on the Clubs ‘People’ Page on the CDFC Website
- Certificate of Appreciation for display at home/work
- Your name listed on a plaque (to stay forever) at the site of the given project upon completion.
Projects undertaken will be at the stipulation of the board of management and in order of both priority and possibility in regards to funds available, timing and logistics.

Or perhaps this isn't costing the club at all. Maybe it's a trial run in consideration of a purchase next year?

The old 'try before you buy' !!!
It was suggested in the members email that the club was considering it as a possible permanent option, so you are probably right there, smac...

The one used at Unley a few years back wasnt worth the effort, it wasnt much bigger than the ones in many loungerooms these days.

Money isn't an issue, its just an old 68cm cathode ray tv that someone left on an Elizabeth footpath.

Apparently looking at lcd screens that can be put together like lego bricks, playing around with sizes will be an easy job - finding the cash will be able he challenge. $130k upwards I am told.
