SANFL 2012 Fixture

This may have been done already. But I don't think there has been a more ridiculous fixture than this years in more recent times. I understand that the season has been extended to 24 rounds and this has meant each team now has 4 byes instead of 3. . I do understand that with the programming of the state league game that this causes a couple of clubs the inconvenience of consecutive weeks off. But surely there shouldn't be any need for any clubs have to endure double byes as North had to through rounds 14 and 15, Glenelg through rounds 15 and 16 and now the Eagles through rounds 18 and 19. In what has been a very even season with many teams still in the running for the finals this ridiculous fixture could remove those hopes for one team.
Smarten up your game SANFL - the fixtures have to be better than this farsical draw in future seasons.

This still isn't any reason to schedule any clubs with consecutive byes.

I'm happy with the Eagles having a double bye at this time of year.
The last couple years it would seem we trained pretty hard as we put in a couple of ordinary efforts straight after, but really built up to our good finals form, above what most expected.
This year it is probably a hindrance when we need wins and some momentum, but that is our fault for getting ourselves into this position.

If the SANFL had have gone out of their way to drive down attendances this year they have a big 'Mission Accomplished' poster behind their desk.
Entry prices up, random draw, bizarre love of the Foxtel Cup and a tired marketing campaign all add up to a massive fail.
Chandler out.

This will surprise you Topsy but I agree 100 percent with you - especially your last line!
My mail is that Chandler is simply a yes man for those higher up at West Lakes and has limited support from the SANFL club CEO's.

The fixture has certainly been a massive cock up. Play teams twice before you play someone once, play teams twice in under 7 weeks, double byes.
I also agree with the pricing issue, for most of us a season ticket or gate admission is affordable, but $14 is a significant amount for some people and prohibits them from going to an SANFL game.
To be honest, I also think the amount of night games ( albeit the crowd figures may dispell this ) are taking the game further away from the traditional Saturday afternoon time slot that people typically enjoy, I know I do.

Agree with all of this as I'm sure most on this forum would.

How much are the crowds down?

I have been saying it for years, there needs to be 2 seperate areas of the SANFL, each with a CEO and report direct to the commission.
One for the running of the AFL/SMA business the other to manage the SANFL competition and community footy.

Crowds per game down about 8% against same time last year
Only two clubs with home crowd increases (Glen & Eag)
Two line ball (Norwood & South)
The other five all have home crowd decreases over 10% against end of last year.

Perhaps they suggest he returns to the family electrical business to give that a spark because he certainly is not doing it at the SANFL...
