Port v Norwood makes sense
why isnt there also Eagles v Central..... I think they are pretty big rivals now after the past 12 years
& wouldnt North v Glenelg be a better fit

If you want rivalry round set out as follows
Port v Norwood
Glenelg v Sturt
Or any other combination of the above
I know everybody hates the term Big 4 but they are the best crowd pullers when it comes to playing each other
Central v Woodville West Torrens (Last 10-12 years this has gotten good GF's etc)
West Adelaide v South Adelaide (Should play for the Kerley Cup)
North's only main rival is Glenelg but North is not Glenelg main rival

Maybe North could play against themselves they seem to be their own worst rival lately...

Not neccesarily. However, this Friday nights Port V Norwood crowd should surpass the current largest crowd for the year.

Fair call .. I think the "Big 4" are the most reliable for pulling the bigger crowds,
when those teams are up and about, but it's pretty rare for all of them to be travelling well at the same time these days.

The Big 4 was a terminology of a few decades ago
The clubs were known as PA-NW-GL-ST
They might be the big 4 in crowd pullers ?
But they are certainly not the big 4 as in successfull Premiership clubs [referring to Glenelg ]
Since 1877 the Premiership winners according to Wikipedia :
36 PA
27 NW
13 NA
13 ST
11 SA
9 CD
8 WA
4 WT
4 GL
3 WWT
1 Adelaide
As for rivalry rounds
PA V NW definite yes
CD V WT definite yes
The rest ???????????
Rivalries should be rivals, not the best crowd pulling teams pitted against each other

In recent years since 1980 I would go the following
Port v. Norwood
North V. Glenelg
West V. WWT.
Sturt V. South
Centrals bye.

I would have thought the Central v Eagles rivalry over the last 10-15 years has been bigger than West and Eagles?

Good point Big Phil I was more going for battle of the Western Suburbs.

This is another poorly thought out SANFL Intiative for season 2012 along with all the other issues with the draw etc (see other topic). No disrespect to West and I am sure they would feel the same but how the hell did the league manage to make North vs. West a "rivalry" match???
The league needs to have a good hard look at itself and take on board many of the suggestions in a lot of areas that the clubs submit prior to things like the draw and rivalry rounds come out. Again my mail is that most clubs didn't get more than 1 idea / consideration implemented despite long lists subnmitted by each club and I understand about 80% of the suggestions forwarded to the SANFL were common across all clubs yet in the main they were ignored.
People like Darren Chandler are ruining this comp so it is time for the clubs to stand up untied and tip idiots like him out!

One game in over 100 yrs of football hardly is a basis for a rivarly and if that is the rationale / game used by the SANFL as a rivarly measuring stick then do they want North and West to go out and bash the crap out of each other this week?

I would have thought the ideal fixture for Rivalry Round would be as follows:
Norwood v Port
Central v Eagles
Glenelg v North
Sturt v West
South - Bye
